Okay...please excuse the novice questions but if the car has been sitting for a few days and you want to check the oil, how long do you let the car idle before you shut it off and check the oil level?

If the car has not been run, and it is cold, how much oil if any can you expect to see on the dip stick?

Check it with the temp at max, right after you pull back in the drive, etc.

If you can hold the oil cap in your hand it is not hot enough.

None. It will all (but a quart or two) be in the sump.

There is only one way to ck oil. Hot, right after shutdown.

    Thanks guys.

To confirm, you check the oil with a hot engine and the car turned off, without screwing the cap in. Correct?
