When to replace 458 shocks

My 2013 458 Spider with 26k miles developed a thudding noise in front driver side wheel when going over bumps. It turned out to be leaking front shock. Just replacing the one. Ricambi has them for $2400.

Same issue developed last year on my 2014 FF rear passenger wheel. Also a leaking shock. Roughly same cost and solved problem and ride.
