when to shift

One the car is warm, I try and shift at the point where the torque curve crosses the power curve, regardless of what I am driving.....and I ALWAYS double-clutch on downshifts.

 

LOL. Classic response. However, this assumes the next thread doesn't read....."at what point to you fill your tank?"

 

Just put it in sixth gear and drive around in that gear. That way you can drive around and neve shift no matter how fast you go. Don't worry about the clutch. It's use to being slipped.

I may have misunderstood you, but if you're saying what I think you're saying then that point is really determined by the units and will always be at 5250 on a graph with the torque in ft/lbs and the power in horsepower.

Edit: I checked the conversion constant and it's 5252 to be exact. When a 355's engine is warm, there's a whole lot of fun between 5252 and the redline (8300? on the 328 it's only 7800)

 

I always let the F355 warm up to full operating temprature before driving it, for normal driving I shift around 4,500-5,000 rpm. I've tried shifting @ 2,500-3,000 the car just feels very sloppy.

 

It's either 2,000 rpm or 8,000 rpm only. Anything in between is unsafe.

 

My 355 runs and sounds best at 8,500 rpm
