Is anything else needed, when registering a vehicle in Tx ?

You can't get the car inspected without proof of insurance for that car. Likewise, you can't register the car without that proof. Fortunately, you don't have to register a car to get insurance for it, so it's not quite a catch-22

    Ralph,

You will also need an application for certificate of title. Available on the link supplied above. Supposed to be signed by seller but for an out of state vehicle I am not sure how they ould require that.

Must have insurance card with correct VIN on it.

Did you catch a green sheet Ralf? When we inspect cars from out of state for registration, the customer needs to ask for a $1 "Green Sheet" (VI-30a form) that we fill out to go along with the inspection.
