Hi guys, I'm a new member and this is my first post besides the "List your exotic and where you live" thread. Although I don't own a F-car, I am crazy about them and hope to own one in the future. I'm 25 years old and drive a Boxster. I hope you don't mind me posting here.

I live and work in downtown Manhattan, so I don't get to drive out often. The only road I like is the S-turns on a hill, going north on the Henry Hudson, between GW bridge exit and the toll booth before the Bronx. Are there any good twisty roads that are accessible to me? I'm willing to venture out a bit and explore, but it'll need to be within an hour or two.

i.e. Where should I go for a Sunday drive?

    Thanks!
    Rich

Well, depending the time of year, you'll get different answers

Summer: About 200 miles south down in Northern Virginia

    Winter (When traffic is lighter):

    - Bear Mountain
    - 25A in Suffolk County on Long Island
    - Ocean Parkway (north tack-back road at Jones Beach)
    - Snake Hill Road in Huntington

Watch this board for run announcements. The routes are usually discussed at length here.

Two of the twistiest (is that a word) roads in the area.

    1. Storm King Highway north of West Point. Head north on 9W until you see the sign for Rt. 218 north and enjoy. Rt.218 will rejoin 9W after the fun part.

    2. A bit more of a drive is known as Hawk's Nest Road up by Port Jervis. It is actually Rt.97 and it follows the Delaware River for a few miles.

Storm King is so twisty that I don't dare take any photos while driving it.

Here are a few picts of the Hawks Nest Road.

Nice pics. There are plenty of great winding roads through some beautiful countryside out in North Jersey, especially in the Bedminister, Basking Ridge, Peapack, Gladstone, Mendham, Chester area. Head out Rt. 78 and get off between Liberty Corner and Clinton and just wander the back roads. I suggest picking up a good NJ map so you can find your way back to a major road. Plenty of great places to stop and eat, go antiquing, look at some major mansions and horse farms, and generally spend a great afternoon. And it ain't that far from NYC.
