Where are the engine & gearbox numbers ?

    I am going to look at a 1977 308GTB - dry sump , carbs - where do I look for the above numbers ?

    from memory the engine number is behind the water pump on the flat surface of the engine under the carbs, the gearbox number is right rear trans mount

    Do you know the "as-first-built" engine and gearbox SNs for this car for comparison? (Unlike the earlier cars, they do not match the the chassis SN.)

    The chassis number of my '74 build car is F106AL* 09646, the engine number is F106A 020 *03061. Is there a means of establishing that this is the original engine ?
