At last got a 180mph Speedo for 81 308. Got 2 of the 4 lights out (Hazard and Battery) and can't see the screws. Have not unpluged the lights yet, seem they are on short leeds and the nylon connector would be pulled in and be unreachable.
Am I in the wrong spot? All the threads I searched for removing the speedo had removing the lights without breaking was the hardest part next to the steering wheel (I decided to lower the wheel rather than detach it - as is suggested in one of the threads.
    Any advice?

    Thanks

    Stephen

    Stephen,

There are 4 screws, one behind each light in the corners of the instrument plate. There are WAY BACK there. Let me try to find my post on how to get them out and I'll post again so you do not make the same mistakes I did.

Got to run and BBQ right now.

    Yes there's four screws.

I just had mine all apart and here's a tip . . . one of the knurled nuts on the instrument I was pulling was rusted and seized and would not unscrew .. .I got up in there with the instrument cluster sitting behind the steering wheel and cut the MF off with a dremel . .. about 15 minutes later I realized if I removed the steering wheel there was enough wire to completely pull the entire cluster all the way out of the dash like 18" making everything accessible . .. at this time I untaggled all the wires for those lights that need to be removed to get to the screws so that there was a bit more extra.

    Cheers,

    Sean

    Stephen,

I am BAAAAACK! Yummy BBQ pig!

    Check his thread:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=194186

And the link in my post under this thread. It should answer most of your questions.

The instruments come out toward the front of the plate and are held in by screws coming out of the back of each. There is a U bracket placed over the two screws on the back of each instrument and a nut clamping the U over the instrument and placing gentle force to the points of the U in contact with the back of the instrument plate. The instrument bezel keeps the instrument from being pulled thru the face of the plate. Look closely at the above thread. You'll see what I mean.

    Hope this helps.

There were just 2 the lower left and upper right. The top right stud was broken off the panel. the bottom right was not only broken but the bracket was missing. The red/black wire to the speedometer was removed from the plug and run to an extra red wire from some where disappearing in the tangle wires.

A little time in the garage making a bracket and 24hours for the JB weld to cure for the studs.

    Just another day .....

    Stephen,

Fish around in there and MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE the broken/missing parts and not down in the rat's nest of wires behind the dash. They could easily get caught in there an d over the course of a few months, cut thru the shielding on a couple of wires and short something out giving you goodnes knows what kind of probelms, real or imagined.

I spent 2 or 3 weekends fishing for the 2 mounting screws I dropped back there and the one braket that broke off and fell down. Lots of fustration as there are lots of places in that small area for screws and even HUGE brackets to hide; just unbelieveable. But, they got to come out IMO.
