Hello all, just one easy question for you. Can you tell me where the VIN plates on a 348 are? Can you post any pics? Thank you very much.
Can't post pictures of real VIN's, that would be asking for trouble. Here are the locations: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sad you think so. I know in the forum are pics of VIN plates, but I can find them now. Well, if you want me to explain I will explain. A frien of mine has a 348 ts, with VIN number 88854 (black on black). He REALLY thinks the car was manufactured in 1995, but I told him that it is not possible, and his VIN plate should be from late 1991. But the last time (and first) that I saw the car I did not remember to check where the manufacture date was. I only want to make sure where to look the next time we go for a ride (maybe this afternoon). PD. I even don't know exactly how ebay works ... I will post pics of the car later.
Thank you very much, that's all I wanted to know. Anyway, real VIN numbers are no so secret, since you can have lots of them in the forum. I even remember a post I read yesterday with two consecutive 348 VIN numbers. But thank you again, I really wanted to know the location.
Chris above showed you where all the VIN locations are. Nice post, Chris But the easiest and most convenient location is on the steering wheel column. The number can easily be seen from outside the vehicle.
Well, I think I still have a question, after looking that pic. The VINs are in: the stering column over the rear right suspension and... where is this plate (see pic) located? The thing I want to really show my friend is the DATE of manufacturing of the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Your profile states you're in Spain... Euro cars don't have the door plates which show the build date. That's a US DOT/EPA thing.
That plate is located in the driver door jam, toward the front of the car. As someone said, that is only for US cars.
Yes, I'm from Spain. I didn't know that was US-only. So, put in another way. Is there any place in the car (papers aside) where you can see the date of manufacture of the car in a Euro 348? thanks!
No, Euro cars don't have a plate with the date of manufacturing. Maybe it's on other specific parts, like the seat belts ... For the VIN on Euro versions, check the steering column and the engine room. If the car has serialnumber 88854, it's certainly from 1991. 1995 is simply impossible. Maybe it was REGISTERED for the first time in 1995 (which might cause it to show as a "1995"-car), but that's another story of course ...
Yes, it's yours. Hope you don't mind. I knew it would be someone's plate, so I hid the numbers, so no one ofended. My friend it's starting to be somehow upset with my findings... I'll tell you how the story ends...
Just look at the tenth digit in the VIN: K = 1989 L = 1990 M = 1991 N = 1992 P = 1993 R = 1994 S = 1995 This letter does not necessarily mean the year that the car was actually manufactured, it means the model year for the car, the car meets the standards for that year, even if it was built during the previous year.
Not sure the Euro cars have that date digit. The 10th digit on mine is a zero. Another clue would be the date code on one of the rubber air intake tubes for example. There will be a dot next to the year the part was made. Is the battery in the back of the car (behind the lights)?? If it is it's most likely a pre-92' car.
As Chris also indicates, this is only for US versions and Middle East versions. All other markets will have a "0" as the 10th digit. For a complete overview of the VIN digits, check my site: http://www.red-headed.com/articles/vin.html
Yes, it is. And that was one of the things that made my thesis stronger... (that the car was '91). So now the thing is not IF the car is '91, but WHY he didn't know it was...
