I recently purchased a 2000 Porsche 996 C2. Unfortunately, it only came with one key and I really want to have two. I'm able to order another key thru for Porsche, but the $300 cost makes me cringe. Is there another way to order a key for less cost? I would assume I could then take that key to Porsche and have them cut it, but I'm not sure. Has anyone ever had to find a second key? Thanks!

Under warranty, one of my keyfobs fell apart. They ordered another key and Porsche filled the order twice, sending them two new ones. They offered me the extra key "at their cost." I took it for $100. Mine was a 2001.

You'll need the key blank ($23) and the keyhead ($126). Then [I believe] you'll have to pay your lovely Porsche dealer to cut the key (you may get away w/ a locksmith) and have them program the RFID chip to your Porsche.

I previously saw that on their site and was unsure if that would be my solution. Thanks for the help! $150 plus a program is easier to swallow!

Extra key for my 996 was at least $400 through Champion.
