How would you get into the car once those doors are installed? You would have to be a very small man or woman...
Italcardesign's doors for the Gallardo are probably the only ones that even keep the car as easily accessable. Most aftermarket door kits don't nearly lift the door the way a traditional Lambo scissor does. Most car doors are also a bit larger than a lambos. Italcardesign offers an Enzo/McLaren style which looks pretty cool too. At least i think its the only alternative that works for the Gallardos styling. Image Unavailable, Please Login
maybe he's like me and likes the Gallardo WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than the Murci....or maybe its outta his budget IDK The VERY first thing I though when I first saw the Gallardo was, "WTF!!! no scizzor doors!!!!! I don't want one then!!!" I bet they'd easily sell 50% more if they did have the doors, and likely wouldn't hurt the Murci sales much.
I don't think it makes a difference in parking. The G-doors normally swing out, so you can't be next to a wall like with a Murci. So i assume you are parking at least a couple feet from the next car over as most parking spaces allow. At least a foot and a half in real tight spots. Those Wing doors from ItalCardesign look like they just keep the same range of motion...but go forward instead. Shouldn't adversly affect parking. I know it won't be an issue for me as i don't even park my daily car close enough to other cars. Even with scissor doors i won't be parking next to someone else. Its still the OTHER person i don't trust! I've had people open their doors into my car while i was standing there watching! I also don't think the Gallardo design lends itself to the traditional scissor doors. The door is very tall compared to its length for the proportions of the car in general. The Countach/Diablo/Murci have slimmer doors it seems. Easier to be out of the way when raised up. You can easily see this when looking at a countach with its doors raised compared to a Cadillac Escalde with "Lambo-doors." The Gallardo would need a door redesign to actually make it look good with scissors. Especially where the front fenders hinge to the door.
The idea behind the Gallardo not having the scissor doors is it makes the Murci standout more. When your paying an extra six figure price tag, you want something more then just a bigger body and a bigger engine. I think this guy could afford a Murci, or atleast a used one. If you buy a Gallardo, then go out and get new doors, the cost will be close to the big broither.
Was that your Lola I saw at last years FFQC??? Beautiful car(certainly one of a kind), I was amazed; you got a system in it and everything!! Here are some pics that show what great work custom fab and welding did: http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9976/034344oi.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/406/041413aj.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/3857/040405xb.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7585/039398lp.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/6869/016165fz.jpg
the door conversion is ok, it does allow you to open the door as normal (fully functional) and also offers the benefit of the vertical lift too. Most people expect all lambo's to open vertically - normal doors are a let down to most people's expectation - just my 2 cents... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmmmm.....That's news to the Miura, Islero, Urraco, Jalpa, Espada, 350, 400, and Jarama owners (did I miss any?). Maybe they should be told where they can get them done AT. Better yet, just buy a replica Diablo or Countach and take a drive with the Replica F40 guy.
Good lord... now we know what can get a bunch of panties in a wad. Its his car, and he can do what he wants. All he asked for were places that he could have the conversion done, not a castration. Contrary to popular belief, lamborghinis, ferraris, etc are not public property.
It was done in London by LSD, there technicians flew out and done the work. For best results visit Germany.
thanks some people just need to get a life thats why i just ignore them i think they got to much time on theyre hand. thanks for replying all that are being a help.
I have always felt that Gallardo should have been designed with the verticle doors from factory, as I kind of feel that they are a Lamborghini trademark and I think they will look great on the Gallardo. However, I am not sure about having this done aftermarket tho, as I saw some of those cars at that verticle door website, I don't feel that the conversions are done well at all as from the photos, the clearance appears to be small and I think that can be a real issue.
Write an Email to my friend Martin at BF Performance. I think they can help you...the have the official LSD license www.bf-performance.com
