Hey guys I want to get an extra set of ECU for the track so i can have modified with a higher octane program 100 plus

I contacted the local dealer and this is what I come up with.

a 1998 550M has identical ECU and almost the same part number

    Price $589 for the pair.

for the 1999 they want close to $3,000

Any suggestions? I would prefer used but I do not know who to call.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide, this is the best Ferrari Forum so I have faith in you guys!!!

You don't need them if using higher octane fuel is your only requirement.

Stephens has put ELF LMS 102 in his car with no ill effect... quite the opposite........

yes I understand but in NYC its hard to get this fuel so i want to use regular pump gas and use 105 Sunnoco when I do a track event.

Swaping the ECU is like a 15 minute job.

If I modify for the higher fuel it will trigger "Check Engine and other faults" during daily comutes.

The 550 runs to much ignition advance as standard for anything less than 98 octane premium (US 94 Octane) I deally it really needs 102+ octane. There is no need for a new ECU, it should not set the check engine light if you use something that has the same relative density as the fuel you use daily.
eg the ELF 102 has the same density as 98 premium, so can be used interchangeably with no effect.
