I can't access it unfortunately... I didn't think it was political or religious?

Unfortunately a 'politically sensitive' subject must have been posted recently since I believe I was the last poster and giving up a solution to fix the leak... no politics in my posts whatsoever at all...

Its not you. But that, as was said, was a loaded question from the start.

Pony up the $15 for a year (best money I ever spent... cheap too!) and you can rejoin the conversation.)

Ya... I should have subscribed sometime back but not for this reason... nothing lost... I just hope BP has a fix soon to solve this disaster.

    Thanks may sign up soon.

Geez, was it "me"?? What did I say( scared, afraid of being chastized, lol)?? Man, it stayed on off topic for a while with no issue (unless the mods were too busy patrolling). My thread is goooooooooooone!!

Just the same, oil wont go away even though you moved my thread....LOL (humoristically, sarcasm....)

The idea of cutting the pipe and inserting a tapered pipe with a valve as they are doing is exactly that... the cut needs to be fairly precise for the tapered pipe to seal or as the Admiral Thad indicates it would seal but still leak... the other idea with the chicken wire/fencing would not work if they have multiple leaks as they have in the riser...

I hope they do fix this... oil is getting to the Florida pan handle and the Pensacola area by Friday.

Right, radio. But kinda funny how all these expensive/presumaably high tech fixes have barnyard names-chicken wire fix, heavy mud fix- whats next, bales of hay stuffed down the well??

We are ALL hoping (some praying) this gets a cure fast. Man, some eddy currents already have some of it getting closer to even the Tampa Bay (about 100 miles last I heard).

hey Radio, Im sending you a PM, ifn thats all right........

Yeah... unfortunately in this low tech equipment (big pipes, large valves, etc.) there isn't a high tech repair like self repairing type nanotechnologies, etc., it's simple fixes to get the job done... not even welding would be allow since all that methane and gas is in solution let alone the crude oil in suspension... it's a mess out there... toxic crude is the worse material there is outside of radioactive material.... see the link to the health risks associated with crude oil....

    http://www.sciencecorps.org/crudeoilhazards.htm

Not kidding this stuff is now in the food supply to a lot of areas inhabited by humans and animal/flora species unlike the Exxon Valdez spill... this will impact a lot of states and communities much less the tourist and fishing industries in a much downturned economy on the brink... did we need such a disaster right now in the U.S. or anywhere?

Nick, FYI, oil at that depth will not ignite. (Actually I doubt even gasoline under any water would burn.) And Methane is a crystal.

Doc, this is true about it not igniting, but you run into enbrittlement (hydrogen) problems in the poor welds and quenching of the material being welded, not to mention the other factors of 'running oil/gas' during the welding process ... these are not the types of problems needed with the pressures present... the only solution is to lower a section of pipe with a valve onto the existing riser and make a mechanical seal (o-rings, etc.) epoxy type seal, and ballast to hold the pipe/valve in place to overcome the pressure from the gas/oil coming up from the BOP.

There may be other solutions and I hope BP and oil engineers explore every facet to fix this leak.

SUCCESS... Pipe is cut and ready to accept the cap/valve... hopefully it provides the seal they require. You have to give lots of kudos to the ROV guys with that fantastic manipulation of the ROV's... this is akin to operating a robot on the planet Mars... they have done a great job.

Looks they botched the cap idea... the pressure of the oil is too great and the cap cannot contain the oil, it is leaking like a sieve at the bottom, not how I envisioned they would do the cap fix. Now the well is leaking more oil and not much they can do except siphon as much to the surface as they can.
