I wanted to make a carpet texture for the interior of my 1/12 Ferrari Testarossa. I have no idea where to buy the stuff. Hobby Lobby and Michael's don't carry it. I even checked the local mom and pop hobby shop-no luck there either. Does anyone know a name of an acutal place where I could buy some? (i.e. not just "...a hobby/craft place should carry it..." I'm looking for the name of the retailer where someone has seen it sold). I am located in central Texas BTW.
    TIA

Sounds like another strike against A&M ;)

If you'd like there's a local hobby store here in Austin (don't remember the actual name) that sells flocking, what color are you looking for? I'd be happy to mail you a tube.

www.kingshobby.com at 8810 north lamar in Austin will have it. I have also seen it at hobbytownUSA, so you can check out either place. another option is to watch for shows and contests in the area and visit the vendor area. they often carry a lot of out of production stuff.

BUT, if you are doing 1/18th scale, you may want to head back over to hobby lobby and check out the dollhouse supplies. they have scale carpet there in several shades of tan and brown that might look more to scale for a larger model.

CstewTAMU, I kind of agree with the idea of scale carpet, or some kind of very fine cloth...I for one have never had much luck with flock. I did read of a model railroading supply that had a small electrostatic gun that was able to shoot the stuff so that it stood up on end reliably - it was used for scenery grass in 1/87 scale.

BTW, is this the Revelle 1/12? I have their Testarossa underway, too. If so, since you are interested in carpet, were you planning to try to open the doors and luggage compartment? I had just planned to build mine as a curbside style display, and paint the interior.

James, yeah it's the 1/12th scale Revelle. I just don't wana travel 100 miles for a bag of cloth fuzz. Didn't know this stuff was so hard to come by. To the above posters that said they had some: Where/how did you acquire it? I know you didn't just have a magic wand and make it appear out of thin air. You had to buy it somewhere, right? : )

Also try Micro Mark. They specialize in scale train stuff, but have flocking.

    LOL @ magic wand...

I bought it at the hobby store. It's the detailmasters stuff, so the link posted by lucky should work.

It is also called Fuzzy Fur.
If you google it, you should be able to find a dealer.
Just out of curiosity- what is the color combo on the TR you are building?

Most of the body parts are molded in a red plastic. I am just doing the traditional red exterior with tan interior exactly like the link below. I want it to look 100% stock-no wild or custom paint, interior trim, etc. First, I am worrying with getting the body painted. It's probably best to do it first since enamel paint takes soooo long to cure. Once I have the body painted how I want, I can put it away for a couple of weeks while I build all the other components.

I may have to run up to Plano and see that car this weekend.

BTW, I am doing the same as you on my 1/12 color combo...red/tan. I will be using Testors Signal Red for the body over gray primer, airbrushed.

The correct color for this model would be Tamiya italian red. If you absolutely have to use testors just use plain red not the signal red as it would be wrong. And I would spray flat red underneath as a primer. Just make sure before you start painting to prep the parts really good by washing them throughly with mild dishwash detergent and letting it AIR dry(don't wipe it)
Also Decide in advance if you want it black and tan or brown and tan interior. If you choose the black and tan you would be saving on paint as a lot of the other parts can use the same color and be painted at the same time (saving dry time). Whatever you decide to make the interior, painted it, detail it and don't worry about what kind of paint you use (gloss, flat etc.) Just when it is all dry spray the cheap testors "dull cote" on top of everything in your interior to achieve even "leather look". And don't forget to do this before you flock the interior.
Good luck and post some pictures.
