They have a special socket which is not a cig socket which I guess should plug into an engine compartment adapter but damm if I can find any. I've looked in a 328, 512TR and a 355. Am focused on the 355.

are you referring to the socket to plug in a obd reader (fault code tool)? if so its under the dash next to and usually on the right side of the steering column. hope this helps.

No, the plug in light that came with the older cars. These have a cord with a plug that goes somewhere to light the engine compartment.

Wasn't in my 360 or 430 which came with a normal battery powered flashlight.

The emergency light prior to the early eighties had a funny euro plug which fitted in a socket under the dash (gtb) or sometimes in the glove box - thereafter the plug was changed to a standard lighter type so the special socket was not needed

    Does that help ?
