If you have the motor hot, turn her off, and quickly do an oil level check, do you screw the oil dip stick unit down before reading or sit it on the oil tank neck.

My car has just had its oil changed and the level is right on max when hot, with the dip stick unit resting on the tanks neck.

The car smells smoky, like its overfull.

Anyone got experience where to run the level.
As its 2 litres between min and max maybe halfway is fine?

    Thanks.

Attached is a shot of the car in the South Island of New Zealand last week on route to our club AGM. Brilliant.
1996, GTS Right hand drive, 5.2 Motronic, red carpets, colour coded roof, enamel fender crests. 45,000kilomters. I love it!!

The temporary stripes are to celebrate 21 years of the Ferrari Club in New Zealand.

    Thanks for the compliment.
I had these printed as a roll and cut them up.
    Cheap as chips.
As these were temporary the poor green colour was OK. Left them on for 3 days.

I recently did this on an old 308 engine cover to decorate the garage. Proffesionally pin striped. The results were superb.
Do you like the F1 motor under the grilles.
Number 52 you ask?? Thats my age.
Bonnet pins!!! A bit non Ferrari, but very popular when car racing in the 70's.

The Challenge belongs to a friend of mine. Its a great track car and the sound indescribable!!
    Best wishes

You dont have to screw the cap back in. You should wait about 30 seconds when you shut the engine off. The best reading is when the car is half way warmed up. If you are overfull there is a chance that when you brake hard and make right turns that you can get oil splashing into the breather tube which will cause your engine exhust to smoke like you just blew the engine.Your slow down bank 1-4 may also come on and shut down that bank temporarily. It is alway better to be slightly on the low oil side than overfull. You should suction out any access. Use a turkey baster if you want.
