I am sure you would not take your F-Car to just any location for an inspection. Curious to know where the Texas folks go to have this done. Also, if your F-Car has a Tubi exhaust... I assume those could/would cause problems with emissions? Cheers.

Beleive it or not, before Boardwalk bought the Ferrari store in Plano, we used a Kwik Kar place on Midway to do our inspections. I don't know if the same guys are there now, but they were very professional, and we usually had no problem, even on cars w/ exhausts. Every car is different, of course, so no guarantees.

Inspections are pretty non-invasive now, depending on the age of the car. Anything '98 or later is OBDII, and is a plug and play.

I just installed a test pipe on my 328 and was wondering about inspection. Think it will pass? It passed with flying colors last year with the cat on. The thought of switching the pipes for every inspection is not fun.

I don't think a Tubi is going to have much impact (my non-professional opinion), but a test pipe probably would. I take mine to Heinleys on Spring Valley, FoD recommended them to me when they were still on Central Expwy.

    The corner gas station.........

But that's after we put a razor sharp tune up on it, using a four gas analyzer.

Mine DOT NON CAT, and 25 years old now, they just look at the tires and honk the horn!

I've taken my 355 to State Inspections on the corner of Custer and Legacy in Plano. They are very careful around the car. A Tubi won't impact emissions but a test pipe will. That said, I was able to get my 911 through with straight headers and no cat. We had to dial down the fuel mixture, swap the engine management system, and lean it out to do it. You couldn't drive the car in that condition but you could pass emissions.

Boardwalk will inspect. I think they take them over to the Porsche dealership to get it done.

My 355 failed when the cats were hollow, for emmissions purposes a hollow cat is the same thing as a test pipe. Rob is right, a tubi will have no effect on inspection.

Correct - I have a Tubi on my 512TR and the results were very very clean. Engine needs to be nice and warm before you test though.

I do it at Kwik KA and they let me drive...no OBD.

I had a Tubi AND test pipes AND blocked off air injectors AND a removed air pump on my '81 308 and I found a place that made it pass (before it turned 24 years old....thus making it exempt) with no "special handshakes" containing a descreetly folded dead president. Cost out the door was $39.50. It did take a bit longer to go through the test....not sure what they did, but it worked. PM me if anyone is interested in where to go....

    George,
You are the man! And in Plano! Were you at the lunch a while back at Maggianos (sp?) in North Park. That was my first "gathering". Look forward to meeting you some day. Looking at a Blue 328 in Houston tomorrow.
Hope to "join the family" soon. Regards. Tom

I am a certified state inspector. If anyone needs their car inspected, PM me. I'm on the NW side of Houston, we don't even have to drive your car! I wouldn't mind though. :D

Tom,I went to Boardwalk to ask them about inspections and they referenced me to a KWIK car north of them on Midway about a mile or so. I went and talked to the inspector at that station and he said no problem with the after market exhausts. He did say make an appointment and make sure the car is warmed up completely prior to arrival and there would be no problem. If there is a problem (slight) PM me and I will give you the name of a fellow that is a little more lenient.
