I conversed a considerable amount with Phil while he was here and he has a number of years experience in Ferrari but in all my PM's and emails with him as near as I can tell the closest he ever got to direct exposure to factory information was the dealer a couple of blocks down the street from him in Australia, half a world away from Ferrari. It does not mean his experience or opinions were of no value, it just means his experience and opinions were just that. Several of his opinions did run 100% contrary to Ferrari information and positions.

As far as any documents I will tell you the same thing the shop foreman told me when I first went to work in a Ferrari dealer and what I told many new mechanics when I was shop foreman " Read the manual, Use the manual, but never let it supercede common sense". Ferrari official documents have always been and always will be a source of frustration and amusement to people in the Ferrari business. 2 days ago I had to diagnose a non operational electronic odometer in a TR. Only very early TR's even had them. My early TR book made no reference to it, my late TR book made no reference to it. It was only when I found a publication generated after the cars were out of production did I find a rather veiled reference and had just enough information to read between the lines and get the data I needed. Many afficionados of the 328 still argue to this day that some late 328's have hydraulic clutches. In the late 328 parts manual there is a couple of pages dedicated to what the header describes as "Hydraulic clutch system". Ferrari MAY have produced a prototype 328 with a hydraulic clutch....I do not know, but I do know no production 328 came with a hydraulic clutch. The pages in the parts book? They show the hydraulic BRAKE system. It is obvious from the pictures but that did not stop the internet experts from propagating that one. I still try to put that stupid rumor to rest. I can show you a factory 550 manual that shows to an absolute certainty that the windshield wipers make the engine management system work..........

Even if it were not for direct factory information as to the purpose of the hose, to think that the small amount of air conveyed by that little hose could have any effect on the thermal inertia of a transaxle supercedes common sense. But thats OK. Some People still believe Elvis is still alive.
