Gentleman A mate of mine is leaving to go to Italy next week and he wants to know where exactly is the Ferrari Factory. Near which city, best way of getting there, do they do tours etc As much info would be appreciated.
don't you have to keep buying ferrari's to see if they have a special gold wrapper in them, then you get a tour of the factory? i swear, if there's no oompah-loompah's there i'm gonna go bruce-banner on wonka's ass.
The factory is located in Maranello, a few miles from Modena. I am sure there is plenty of info on fchat on how to get there.
Its in the town of Maranello near Modena. The closest airports are Milano and Bologna. Coming fron Milano -- From the A1 autostrada Milano-Napoli, heading for Bologna, take the Modena Nord exit, getting on the Tangenziale signposted for Abetone-Sassuolo. Follow signs for Maranello-Formigine. Turn to the left and take the provincial Giardini road for 3 km. Coming from Bologna -- From the A1 autostrada Milano-Napoli heading for Milano, take the Modena Sud exit, join the state road SS632 for 1 km. Turn to the left and stay on the provincial road Sp 16 for 15 km. Turn right and continue for 3 km. I don't believe that you can get into the factory without being an owner and without arranging the tour through an authorized dealer.
The Ferrari Factory is in the town of Maranello, just outside Modena. Do a search and you'll find how to get there as well as many other things.
I booked a long weekend in Firenze for the early part of March 2005. I am interested to know if anyone has taken the train to Modena/Maranello? I suspect the train service only goes to Modena and I will have to figure out how to get from Modena to Maranello. Anyone have any suggestions or first-hand experience? Thanks in advance!
Brandon, -Don´t take the train. If it will show up, it will take for ages getting there. Get a rental car and drive to Maranello (approx. 40 km directly south of Modena). I have done that several times, and I have been inside the factory twice. Driving in Italy is quite easy, Ciao, Anders (in Sweden)
Not 40 kms. Actually it is 17 kms (or 11 miles) from downtown Modena to Maranello, along the Abetone road, mostly on the tangenziale, which is the ring road around Modena.
Great guys.... thanks! It might indeed be better to drive from Florence than to deal with the train and other assorted slow-moving modes of transport! Grazie!
Bob, ten to fiften years ago, i visited the factory as a "non owner" on three separate occasions ..... the first time i stayed (by coincidence) in a hotel with a group of japanese tourists and simply 'blagged' my way on the factory tour with them. the second occasion, I spoke to the girls at the restaurant across the road from the factory .... they made a call or two and I made it through with a small party of enthusiasts from Germany. the third occasion, i wrote stating my distinct interest in the then new in-house foundry facility ... i was allowed a peek for an hour or so. also, it pays to speak a little italian. cheers, d
I was there in April 2004, and the factory was off limits to everyone because the 430 was about to launch. My dealer couldn't get me in. The girls at the museum couldn't get me in, and the women at the public relations desk inside the gate was not the least bit moved by my begging, grovelling, crying, limping.....................
Even as a Ferrari owner, it is indeed NOT easy to gain access to the factory in Maranello. I am working with my Ferrari dealer now to fill out the special request form in which they have to authorize. As I understand it, the request form is sent directly to Maranello for approval where I will be sent the sacred factory entry pass before my departure to Italy. I'm crossing my fingers! Grazie!
I wrote directly to FNA and Mrs. Rodriguez there was super friendly and helpful. I got the date I wanted and were greeted by no other than Mr. Montezemolo himself. You have to give them a one week window at least for the date. The tour is well worth it because it gives you insight into the process of how our cars are built and I think a great appreciation as to what "hand built" means and the pitfalls that we all have experienced as to fit. If your dealer can not or will not help, contact FNA direct. Ask for Mrs. Rodriguez. I must say that the few times I have called FNA I have been most pleased with their customer service. Just a week ago Mr. Wilson there has been over the top helpful in resolving a customs issue of exporting one of our Challenge cars. They go well out of their way to help you resolve issues. To the tune of him calling me back on a Friday night at 6pm to discuss my issue with me and writting a letter Monday first thing in the monring. If they can do it, they will.
Well, I am all set! My tour date is Thursday, 10 March at 3 PM. My contact there is Federica Federici. I booked into the Domus Hotel nearby for the night. Myrna was indeed a help as she was the contact at FNA who sent me the final papework/pass. Wow! I am still pinching myself that I will see the birthplace of my beloved Ferrari. I'm so totally psyched! I'll try to get some pics to post (of the outside, they don't allow cameras in the factory) Thanks again guys!
Get to Modena Station, there are signs at the station on how to get to Maranello. You will need to catch a bus or get a cab. Its about half an hr drive from Modena Station. I went last yr, awesome! You should organise a tour of the factory before you go though as you cannot just turn up and go in.
I did this last October, took the train from Venice to Bologna, change train in Bologna to Modena, then take the bus from the Modena train station to Modena bus termial, switch bus to Maranello, very easy to do and the trains are on time 99.9% of the time in Italy. Watch out for the test drivers taking brand new Ferraris to Fiorano very quickly!
My wife & I spent our first night in Italy ever at this Hotel. You can walk quickly to everything from there, its located on the Piazza Liberta which becomes quite festive in the evenings, particularly on the weekend evenings. Here's a link from a few that has photos from a few guys and myself from Maranello and around Italy Oct 04: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37026 Ferrari of Seattle helped me with my arranged tour. First, be registered on the Ferrari Owners Site. Then your dealer will link you to FNA with your vin, and your window of time availability for a tour...FNA will send you a nice invitation letter to bring with you to Maranello for the tour. "I did this last October, took the train from Venice to Bologna, change train in Bologna to Modena, then take the bus from the Modena train station to Modena bus termial, switch bus to Maranello, very easy to do and the trains are on time 99.9% of the time in Italy. Watch out for the test drivers taking brand new Ferraris to Fiorano very quickly!" We came into Italy via Milano, train to Modena, and then the exact same as above...caught the bus from Modena's station to Maranello when school got out...standing room only with our luggage all the way to Ferrari town with screaming teenagers ! Enjoy PeterB.
Ferrari 328 Euro...the Domus Hotel is a good place to stay. The Hotel Planel is also good and right across from mecca central...the factory. I think...wait, yes...I know I spent more time on my room balcony that I did in the room. I'm ready to go again. FYI...FNA said that the factory has been cutting down on tour dates meaning not all visit requests are being granted. Sophia...I've got fuel line cross-over hose ready to come your way...drain those fuel tanks!
The solution to the cut back on tour dates is to take the tour as offered on the Owners Site. We did that last October and it was the best 621,00 Euro spent in quite a while. Our "freebie" dealer arranged tour is this April as we'll be there for the San Marino GP. The Owner Site tours are size limited and fill quickly. We enjoyed it alot and plan to go again when offered in the fall. Carol
Thanks guys for the updated info on transportation and hotels... I have a buddy who might be able to drive me from Firenze where I am staying to Maranello, otherwise I may opt to take the train/bus to Maranello. I had not heard of the Hotel Planet before - thanks for the info. I'm so totally psyched now.... I leave for Firenze two weeks from today and although I go there often, this trip is special as it will be my pilgimage to see the birthplace of my beautiful 328..... Man, this is a dream come true ! Thanks Peter, for the great pics! Looks like you had a GREAT time..... I'll post some pics as well when I get home! Thanks again guys.....
Visits to the Galleria Ferrari (museum) and the Ferrari Store in Maranello are definitely in order. On the same piazza as the Domus is the Maranello Cafe - a great place to stop for a late night coffee and conversation. If you have time and transportation, another "must do" is a visit to the Maranello Rosso museum in San Marino. The collection consists of 25 Ferraris including a 250GTO. A new section covering Abarth is now open as well. Almost too many places to see and things to do in one trip. If you have half the fun we have you are in for a great time. Enjoy and please post pictures when you return. John
I heard the Maranello Rossa Musuem didn't excist anymore?? I visited about 6 years ago. Can anybody confirm this??
They were open to the public when we visited in Oct 2004. The Ferrari displays on the ground floor section were very nice and a very informative historical section was upstairs. A new section on Abarth was planned to open shortly. They have a web site at www.maranellorosso.com. John
