oh btw, i suspect those that really know were able to detect a subtle note of sarcasm in my post above! lol!!
Now I "know". Perhaps you should put a little more credence in "Caveat emptor" before your next purchase. LMFAO. Would you have cracked those heads?
hi doug, not been able to add to this thread as i have been away...back in cornelius now! my remarks were made to simply remind all that the shop you mentioned had some rather large problems with my car and as a result , with me. in fact, the issues had been discussed at points on f-chat beginning w/ the old board when the car was first taken to jeff's shop...dec. 2002. my car was there for 2.5 years...2.5 years!!!!! it was in for a main shaft break. while in we would do a mojor and tighten up any other loose ends while the engine was out. i am very particular about the state of my cars and i was was told of jeff by a friend of mine that is a significant ferrari person in the carolinas (actually won at pebble w/ one of his cars) so i figured if he was good enough for bill, he would be good for me. That was the last time the story was good! I remember my first impression was holly *****...this guy has a dirt driveway and how the fug will i ever get my car clean again after it is covered in dust? who would have known that was going to be the least of my worries? the process began w/ jeff asking me to provide an advance of $5k. this was to purchase the needed parts....he is a small shop and the parts would be costly...i sorta understood that so i paid. the initial job was said to be around $6k. I then moved to california and was told the car was in good hands and not to worry. it would be ready in 30 days and i would fly back to pick up and arrange shipping. no problem. obviously, i called each friday to get progress report and all started to be going well...until wade at foreign cars italia started to send the "wrong" parts. ok, no problem i thought... it is a boxer, so i'm sure this can happen. add two more weeks (btw...that was the last time schedule was defined in weeks...soon went to months!!!) to the pick up schedule. this too became an issue as i needed to have 2 weeks to schedule a plane ticket to fly into charlotte and also coordinate the intercity truck to pick up...a much bigger task than i would have thought. fast forward 4 more months and i fly in to see my car. engine out and parts are everywhere...i get worried. the good news was that he showed me what my money had bought...all the new parts were there as well as a new clutch kit that was needed as the engine was out...might as well make that job easier also. while there, we discussed that he would need another 2 months but that it would be correct when done and it would be ready for summer! and btw, he needed an other $2k as the job and scope was greater than initially thought...ok...another check for $2k. i leave sad and get back on the plane. 2 months later, i am lucky enough to have business in charlotte and show up at jeff's place unannounced at the end of the day. he was very surprised to see me but yelled out a "hey dude" anyway. my car was tucked in the corner (atleast it was covered") but looked as if it had not been touched in a month or more!!! I said jeff, wtf is going on here? we agreed to 60 days but this was fugged up...nothing was done! he then went on to say that wade sent the wrong input shaft and thathe was going to have to get it machined to work properly. side note, i did call wade and say wade, wtf, this parts thing is really beginning to hurt my driving fun...what gives? he indicated that this was a regular thing w/ jeff and that he was cut off from all the other parts places and that he was on a c.o.d. basis w/ fci. well back ot the shop, jeff goes on to tell me his sob story of his certain divorce and how his wife was a deadbeat and would not help him run his shop ...blah blah blah. ok...i can see my car is now a hostage to jeff's personal life and so is my wallet. by this time, his ferrari business is slowing down and he makes mention of going to work w/ tom jones at steve barney's place. i chuckled as i thought, no way would steve barney let this slob in that palace of a shop of steve's! whatever...i leave and jeff say be patient dude, were gonna get it right! it's winter again and I tell jeff i'm going to fly out to see what progress is made...he says that the motor is back in and that progress is being made. the radiator is back in and no more leaks...etc. i get there and the motor is back in...sorta. it is actually laid in there and just to make me comfy that work has been done...i could not fuggin believe how this fug head was still telling me lies...i am jumping out of my skin at this point!!!!!!!!!! i leave w/o telling him good bye and go straight to steve barney's place...a good long drive btw. i tell steve of my issues w/ jeff and ask him what i can do? steve is booked up and tom jones is busy with customer cars only. he says he is sorry but he thinks jeff can get through it. still in a panic,i get on the phone w/ my old mechanic, bill pollard of sport auto (gaylordsville, ct) as he may be the very best boxer guy in the country. I ask if i can ship the car to him to finish. bill said that based on the current state of repair...lack of...that parts would likely be lost and some parts are simply not available anymore. it needed to stay w/ jeff to finish. bill being the pro that he he is agrees to call jeff weekely to assist over the phone and to give me weekly progress reports. please call bill to verify if you doubt my story...bill pollard, sport auto @ 860-350-1515. fast forward...it is summer again and there have been many more visits and i am well over $15k...just to jeff, but the car is looking like progress is being made. still more lying going on along the way however about family, business and my boxer! to be expected by now right?! i will write more later...i need a break from this. it is not easy to relive all this. keep in mind , we have a year to go and another $10k more to spend before this story ends!! more later...
Jesus Christ, it'll be easier to fly to Maranello, get a doctorate in Ferrari Repair, and do it yourself...or buy a Bizzarini, Islo Grifo, even a Pantera that is Chevy or Ford powered. But..it still want have that sound.
