I've never been able to root for race drivers to fail. Maybe its the distinction between individual athletes and teams like one sees in football, basketball, etc. Teams are made up of people but the whole usually outstrips the sum of the parts and its easier to think of an impersonal force as "the enemy". OTOH, rooting against an individual is much harder unless I find them to be a terrible person or something. I may pull for a specific individual more than others, but I won't be pulling for Lewis Hamilton to fail or crash for example just because he drives for McLaren. As for the Ferrari team, I'll pull for them in both good times and bad. Obviously its pretty frustrating right now but no team holds dominance forever. I'm not a huge Alonso or Kimi fan but they are very talented drivers who can perform when properly motivated.
If being a Tifosi means supporting a blatant cheater who was involved in felonious criminal behavior, not once but twice, from which two years in a row almost brought an end to two long standing manufactures racing teams, and helped cause a sickening of the entire sport worldwide, I guess I am not a Tifosi. I couldnt support any team in any sport that was known for stealing and cheating to the level Alonso has been involved. Ferrari are fools and are taking grave risk to assume Alonso will not involve himself again in something larcenous. Maybe next time instead of a minor crash, there will be something far worse. I sure hope not.
Maybe the US fans see F1 differently than the rest of the world, but I for one, am supportive of the team first, individuals second. For example, I love the Steelers and will always cheer them on to a victory, irrespective of the individual players, just as I cheer for Ferrari to victory, irrespective of the individual players. Lets say Ben Rothlisburger left the Steelers and went to the Browns. Despite the Browns playing the Steelers, I would still cheer for Ben to have a good game, but not good enough to beat the Steelers as my heart and soul will always pull for the black and gold to win, always. Likewise, because KR is leaving Ferrari, I would still cheer for KR to do well, but not to beat a Ferrari as my hear and soul will always pull for the red car to win, always.
stealing and cheating is/has been part of the biz...get over it. so it was FA that told FB and Piq to get the crashing on? he was also the brains behind spygate as well? 'felonious criminal behavior' ??? that's funny! i guess this means you wll no longer be a Ferrari supporter, just like a few others who said they would stop if FA was ever signed. ok, see ya.
+1 (to a degree). I think it's stretching things a bit to lay the blame for spygate and crashgate at Alonso's door. With spygate, if it wasn't for Alonso threatening to reveal the truth then it may not of become known for years and how fair would that have been to the teams and the fans?. As for crashgate, nobody knows and it's never been proven just what, if anything, Alonso knew about it. F40 lover: You raise a good point that I had wondered Myself. If you supported for example the New York Giants and they signed Mark Sanchez from the jets. Would you go and support the Redskins in protest?. I don't think so, so why do it in F1?
