What the hell. The only thing I was interested in, how the rear wheels steering helps performance, he completely misunderstood saying they turn opposite to the front ones to make steering more agile, which they ansolutely don't. What a joke this new top gear and Harris have become.
Oversteer seems to be a problem for the 'less than expert' driver which maybe why the Lusso as yet to be released to the press. Just adding two and two from the rumour mill
Not with traction controls on. To do those slides, which is not easy to perform as the car is so instant in its responses I would think took some getting used to the car and all systems turned off. As with many of these cars now, performance is so extreme, you will only ever come close to exploring it on a track. It's an epic car and anyone lucky enough to own one is living with one of the great Ferrari cars, and lets face it, they have made some great cars. I thought it was a good piece, and I liked the intro with the 250 TDF
Me too. Great piece of nostalgia mixed with a truly great modern Ferrari. If this is the new benchmark then its replacement is going to be some machine.
Well noted. I was too busy enjoying the aural orgasm to note, but that aside, it was a great review and it is clear this is a very special Ferrari, refreshingly taking a somewhat different route. And that exhaust note. For my level of expertise, clearly I will be keeping TC on.
I kind of get the criticisms of ch as his YouTube endeavours were automotive journalist masterpieces. The conversations with technical directors, race car drivers and other journalists had a level of depth to it that made it a cut above the rest. Only other people that do it as his level it or better are Jay Leno and Harry from evo. I'm not sure how long Chris Harris will endure dumbing it down for the general public. If he releases the special DVDs like Jerrmy used to than they might be pretty epic but it's stupid if you can't stream them on iTunes etc. The format of top gear should have changed to add the new presenters own personality to it as they just seem like imposters or fill ins for the other 3. I'm really looking forward to seeing what format the other 3 will use on Amazon. Hopefully the speed of reviews will somewhat keep up with youtubers as I don't think the tdf review by ch was that epic to wait a year for it. I'm not sure what previous seasons viewing numbers were as I stopped watching top gear a couple of seasons ago but the viewing numbers aren't looking too promising; https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2016/jun/13/top-gear-viewing-figures-fall-to-new-low
I would never watch Top Gear with Chris Evans ... as an American with no experience of this man he seems worthless and is visually hard to even look at. The Friends guy is ok, rather annoying in his own right ... but after Jeremy and Co. it's all a let down waiting to happen. BBC are clearly corporate idiots with egos bigger than Clarkson's. I would watch with Chris Harris, if they let him run it.
I am led to believe, there will be an online video by CH for the TDF that will be less constrained. We will see.
In discussing the new TG with a friend his take is its "warmed over soup". I think he is spot on! The soup was so good that warmed over is really not so terrible, its nice for a next day snack, but its not even close to how it was originally served. And that's the problem. I think they made a terrible mistake by not really moving the show on. These new hosts need time to grow together. They can't do that if they are just doing the old show with a few tweaks. I think we would have less issue with this group if they were filling in for a few weeks... Instead I think this risks turning pastiche. I'm also disappointed with CH's TG review. I think the review itself was too short by probably ½. I would have liked more 250 TDF and much much more F12tdf. I did love the beginning and the discussion of the 250. What a car and what a sound! Those 250 cars make such an incredible sound. I doubt they intended to make one of the sweetest sounds in automotive history- but it sure is. To hear a 250 amped up, have a listen to the video by Petrolicious on the 250 GTO series II. It was nice to see CH sliding the car as that's been a criticism. But I think he completely missed the boat on the looks- of course that is subjective. The car is more savage than the Berlinetta but, that's the point. And I think it's still a very pretty car. This review is far superior to what TG did on the 599 GTO, but that's a low bar to clear. I was hoping for more. I've got to say the car does look fantastic. I don't know if its interference from the BBC with what CH wants to do, or just CH adapting to a new show... something is just a bit off from his usual videos. I truly hope CH/TG gets to put a longer version out. I'd like so much more detail. In thinking more on TG, I think they could do the whole show with Roray Reid (sorry if spelling is off), CH and maybe they could steal Tiff Nedell and Vicki from 5th Gear...
I think CH section was trimmed so it appealed to a wider audience (not just car guys). I agree that I wish it was more detailed, it just seemed like he was voice overing the old 3 guys. good news is that topgear.com announced today that Chris harris will be doing his own web series online too!
That is great news! Check and mate for the industry. Chris Harris is coming to TopGear.com! | Top Gear
Apparently I don't get the BBC America channel with my service. From the sound of it, I'm not missing anything. However, I was really looking forward to his review of the car as so many others. He'll reach more people on TV perhaps but not the right audience. Too bad, his former review of the F12B was epic.
The tdf review was the best part of the latest top gear review for me but it felt dumbed down. Hopefully this new web segment should provide us with more of what a lot of us were used to when Chris had his own show.
I thought the actual F12TDF piece was pretty good, albeit not up to C.H.usual level but TG is mass market and has to appeal to all. However, I did find the part afterwards in the studio cringeworthy and unnecessary.
I am afraid he was a) nervous in the studio where Matt LB was more interested in clever remarks than extracting information and b) I think his review had been somewhat shortened and definitely muzzled by the BBC.
Vicki unlike some of the others really seems to enjoy herself. She had her way with a Challenge Stradale and the F12 tdF would be more more more fun!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm enjoying the new Top Gear. I think there is a lot of energy. I think Sabine is great..."hold on to your balls honey!...." as she hits the corkscrew at Laguna...very funny. I think Matt adds an element of "cool" to balance Chris's (CE) manic approach. I can see a real chemistry develop among the main presenters...so I will continue watching. I would love to see Vicki on this show...(forget the name of the other 5th Gear presenter (younger guy) but I do like him as well; but Tiff is the most annoying little monkey-gnome with his constant giggling-affected-chatter I would rather crush my balls in a red-hot vice before watching that buffoon.) I am confused by the whole "extra gear" thing though...not sure how that all fits in. CH doesn't seem comfortable yet, not behaving like himself. I thought the SUVs in Africa was a fun piece. The R8 was good. The TDF, including the original 250 TDF, was fantastic. I would like to see some more technical discussion about the cars other than just yelling, "this is aaawwweesssooommmmme!" Then puking.
