How do you access the battery on a 355?
Not to be a party pooper... But you really need to read over your owners manual. If you don't have one, then download it from the owners site. It's chalk full of useful information.
RTFM....as in "read the f-ing manual". But, to save you some time Colby, jack up the car, remove the right front wheel, and using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the four or so screws on the forward panel in the wheel well, and you will find the battery behind there.
I'd cut Colby some slack! The weekend I bought my 355 I drove it back from Chicago to South Carolina. While we were coming down the Blue Ridge Parkway (awesome drive!), the battery failed. We went to check it and for the life of us could not find the thing. We had the manual which even showed us where it was, but it never mentioned removing the wheel and the wheel well liner. I took off every part of interior trim in the trunk area looking for an access door (like my TR has) with no luck. We finally gave up, jump started the car using the terminals in the engine bay, and drove the rest of the trip without shutting the car off. The manual identifies the location of the battery, but it is not sufficiently clear on how to get to it that I would ever hassle someone for having a hard time with it. And I'm an engineer...
Just maybe Colby doesnt have an owners manual or access to downloading one. Maybe Colby thought he could ask some of the friendly fchat guys to help him out!
Sorry to come off as being Pissy, But If he has access to post on the internet, then he has access to downloading an owners manual.
I guess the engineers spent many sleepless nights designing the least accessable place they could for it. Or maybe they figured Ferraris NEVER have battery troubles? Ken
Well, "Ferrari engineering" is pretty f*cked up most of the time...but hey, you don't need to remind us. I mean come on, at least I own one...do I go around posting on Lotus chat boards on all their faults?
I think every new 355 owner has been there - and the OM is wrong - cause the pictures show the cargo space... Only after I had all the carpet out - did I figure that one out
Take off the right front wheel. There will be a black panel attached to the bumper by Phillips head screws, remove the screws and then the panel. There is your battery!!!!
No need to; we do PLENTY of that ourselves! LOL Lotus' have excellent designs usually in a minimalist approach, so they break due to no redundency or poor/cheap materials. Ferraris are way more complex, with overall better quality parts, but also more design "flaws" where things are inaccessable or otherwise hidden away. This is because you can only fit all their systems into a small package one or two ways, and thus they are not user friendly a lot. If my Lotus was as complex as a 308, it would be the ultimate nightmare!! Ken
It so happened I was at a an audio store w/o my manual. I was having an amplifier installed and thats why we needed the battery. We found it shortly after my post. I certainly appreciate all of the informative replys, and understand the smart ass ones. I have been known to give a rash of sh*t to people about not knowing their cars. Thanks again everyone. -Colby
