Who has it for the best price? Is it better to buy online or local?

I bought it at the local auto shop 'Baxters' here in Beaverton. Can't remember, $12 a quart maybe?

Doing a quick survey on line I found that most places charge about $10 per quart with some a bit higher. The best price showed $9 per quart but they were back ordered - DOH! Then there is shipping and remember that the stuff isn't light considering you need about 11 liters of the stuff for an oil change. Given that, I opted for a local alternative. Check out the local speed shop and you will probably find that the price is about the same as online plus shipping (before tax which is 9.75% in LA) and you get it right now!

I got tired of trying to find it locally and ended up just ordering it online. To be fair, I only made about two or three calls before giving up. I'm lazy that way...

Same deal... I wasted a lot of time trying to find it local. Then I just called up the folks at RedLine and bought directly from them --- didn't want to waste more time finding a retailer online, either, plus they stock everything, of course --- most retailers don't. I doubt you'll find a better price anywhere than buying direct (unless someone is running a special).

Jason, did you ever get a chance to snap a pic of your gear oil plug? Or have you not changed your gear oil yet?

Sounds about right, but the bottles come in quarts (which is 946ml - 54 ml short of 1 litre) so it will be about 4.5 bottles

I believe Redline lists all their dealers on their website. On a 355 you only need 5 quarts or there about. The price differential of a couple dollars a quart versus shipping versus tax...I would buy from which ever is easiest...mail order or local shop.

I am lucky, I have two shops that stock it nearby...one is only a half mile from my house! I think they car $12 or so, which is just fine for the convenience. ;)

Here you go, Redline's online dealer locator: http://www.redlineoil.com/dealers.aspx

I'm a slacker. Actually, my car has been all masked up for painting for a while, and I didn't want to rip into the masking to change oils. Just a few days ago the masking came off (to be remasked again, but at least all the block sanding is done), so the opportunity is now there. However, so far (since regaining access to interior, front trunk, and engine bay), I've been reworking some of the A/C electrics, and re-fabricating an interior panel that had been butchered for a subwoofer that was recently removed. I'll try and post pics later today of all the work I've been doing, these past few weeks.

I'll definitely post the gear oil pic when I get to it... probably later this week. (Of course, that is exactly what I said a few months ago, though. Gah! Where does the time go?)

I picked up my Redline engine oil on Amazon...even with shipping cheaper than the local sellers, and much easier.

Very easy job. Everything you need to get to is accessible. You can remove the airbox to get to the gear plug fill, or simply just fill it via the dipstick plug.

Start reading at post # 39 in this thread and you should be fine (or you can read the entire thread if you wish, total of 3 pages).

The gearoil dipstick is actually near the very bottom of the gear box, shown in the picture of post # 39 here, but it is hard to tell because of the angle of this picture. Stand behind the left tail light and look down into your engine bay and you will see it.

and the drain plug is circled here in yellow (thanks to PAP), you can probably crawl right under the back of the car without even jacking it up to get to it, you will need a 10mm allen key or hex key

Lol, yeah... apologies for the angle in that photo. I seriously was leaning over the engine bay while standing exactly where Mike is saying, and had the camera pointing straight down. I believe the 348 primer had a good diagram of the location as well.

Anyway, earlier today I FINALLY got around to doing this as well. I managed to get one of those paint filter/funnels under the draining oil to see what all metal shavings were in there. I hope it had a fine enough filter to catch them! Anyway, The filter was pretty darn clear of shavings, but the oil looked like it seriously needed to be changed. Luckily, my magnetic plug didn't look TOO terribly bad, given that it looked like the oil hadn't been changed in quite some time. Here's a close up of my plug to show the amount of shavings/filings...

I'm sleeping well tonight! I really was worried, as this was the first time I've done this since I've had the car. Now I know, and can rest assured. Zzzzzzzz *happy dreams*

    Thanks Mike!
