I was hoping that along with the evolution of the 3 series to a 4, would be the evolution of the engine to a V-10.

This is the next logical step for Ferrari to make and it makes sense in so many ways including:

the technical benefits that the F1 machine has (less weight, shorter, higher rpm (?), etc.)

a evolution of the 3 series that raises the class of the car and brings in more money for Ferrari

    a match to the Gallardo

    OR

the F60; a truer connection to the F1 machine than the Enzo (if that is possible).

How about a center driving position along with that V-10?

    What do you think?

Ok, you say if it is possible to get a truer connection to an F1 from an Enzo. Then mention sticking a center driven V-10? Wow, if you can get closer to an F1, why are you going to put a V-10 in it? Plus Ferrari has never built a V-10, and noone would want one. It's either V-8 or V-10.

Ferrari doenst need to "match" anyone, like what brandon said its either v8 or v12 nothing more or less. All on Enzos cars when he built them were 12s

Ferrari needed a quick model change to counter the Gallardo. So they took the engine (block, at least) from their proven Maserati engine, which in the first place was designed by Ferrari to replace the current 360 engine and altered and improved the body a bit and has a car that's been acclaimed as the best that Ferrari has ever built. So that can't be bad!! They did all that within a year, that's something to be admired!

V10, well cant say I am a fan of the idea. Gallardo has a V10 and sounds too horid for words IMHO.

Besides the V8 has come to represent the "entry" level Ferrari's and with techonology availible today too me it wouldnt make sense to invest money in a V10 that would weigh more than an V8 and possibly make the car more tail happy.

The 4.3 V8 in the 430 depsite being 700cc smaller than the 5 liter V10 in the Lambo produces nearly as much power. So in short a V10 isnt needed.

I have to agree that the Gallardo exhaust note isn't great, but with the V10 in the Carrera GT, it sounds awesome- moreso than the Enzo in my opinion.

You guys are out of your minds.

Have you driven a Gallardo or heard it in person? I've driven it and the exhaust note and engine sound are out of this world. The thing sounds like an airplane.

I love Ferrari engine sound just as much as the next guy. But let's not bash the Gallardo just because we love Ferraris. The Gallardo V-10 is one of the most musical engines ever to come from Italy.

Sorry but I simply cannot agree, Gallardo sounds awful, no scream, just a more of a growl, so very German, to me an SL55 sounds better, but then we all have differant tastes.. Yes I have heard a Gallardo in person. To me though Lambo quality is still very suspect, despite the German influence.

There is a short interview with Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari Deputy Managing Director and Chief Engineer in this month's Automobile.

Q: Obviously, your F1 cars have V-10 engines. Have you looked at one for your road cars?

A: A V-10 doesn't really fit in. With the V-12 and the V-8, we have plenty of room for evolution on our road cars.

F1 will be using v-8s only in 2006 so forget about the v-10/F1 association. BMW got burned by this with their new ///M motors and they are pissed off about it.
