Let's here where you all want it, and then I will start a pole with the most popular locations later. My vote is to keep it in Indy!

I read somewhere they were considering a street-track setup for a Grand Prix in Las Vegas. I think that would be spectacular.

I say keep it in Indy or move it to downtown Chicago...wouldn't that give
MONTE CARLO A RUN FOR ITS MONEY!

Did you see the sign held by some fans at the start of the race today? It read something like:

THREE STRIKES AND YOUR'E OUT -

    1. Tire "issues"
    2. Team orders
    3. Vegas.

Move the GP back to Watkins Glen, or better yet, Sears Point or Laguna Seca. At least there would be a lot of other reasons to go to the races even if only 9 cars are running at the end, and you wouldn't be wasting a trip to some other nowheresville.

Although I would love to see a USGP at one of the classic US road course tracks, Road America, Watkin's Glen, Laguna Seca, etc., I don't think there's enough lodging nearby or suitable facilities, too dusty and, and...

I do feel that a race including a stretch along the Chicago lakefront and or through one of the lakefront park areas, would be fabulous.

But my the hair on my back stands on end, when I imagine standing in the woods, watching a gaggle of modern F1 cars on full song, rippin' down the long back straight at Road America headed for turn 5. ZOWEEE !!!

If Penske revives his interest, definitely CA Speedway (infield and oval).
CA is the best and largest F1 market in the US.
    BTW, it would be hard for any city to give Monaco a run for its MONEY;
Long Beach (not Miami Beach) would come close.

I would like to see 2 USGPs like the days of old - Watkins Glen (long course) and a west-coast circuit. Long Beach, Phoenix, and LV all had GPs at some point, but I think a street course wouldn't be the right way to go... Cal Speedway sounds like a fine idea.

Laguna Seca would be AWESOME, in my opinion, but I've heard (convincing) reasons why it'd never work in the past, and although I can't remember what they were now, I'll just say it's a nice dream....

San Jose, while cool for the city, would be a schitty circuit for F1. **Zero** elevation changes, like Monaco, that make a city circuit so cool..

Long Beach C.A.R.T. street course or Laguna Seca. Long Beach is a former site of the F1 World Championship and would be a VERY popular venue. The C.A.R.T. race is extemely popular.

Alternate between Indy and a street course to compete with Monte Carlo. I have heard that a few years back Ecelstone went to New York City to look into a possible road couse there. My vote would be Washington, DC. or, someplace in the center of the country like Dallas. Indy has it's bread winners in The 500 and brickyard 400. Why should they control a monopoly on Formula 1 as well?

Long Beach? Been there, done that. The last F1 race at Long Beach had worse attrition than Indy: They tried to bolt down the manhole covers, and the cars pulled them up. Imagine hitting an open manhole at 150 mph. (shudder) Add the poor road surfaces, and F1 will never go back to Long Beach.

Watkin's Glen? Way too tight for supercars. Perfect for a 360 Challenge, horrible for an F248. Don't ruin a great sportscar track to make a bad F1 track.

Washington? Geez: you can walk faster than the traffic in DC. And the street surfaces are almost as bad as the ones in New York.

    Daytona? Maybe.

We had a half serious thread a while back about Cape Canaveral. The more I think about it, the more I think how cool that would be.
(And it's not like they actually had a launch Sunday. <eep>)

The US has "super speedway" ovals and twisty sportscar tracks. But neither are suited to F1.

The problem is that F1 cars are pretty unique, and require unique facilities. ANY place that tries to run F1 is going to have to make some major adaptations.

The future of F1 may be those places willing to build unique facilities for once a year use. Bernie has just about priced F1 out of the private enterprise sector.

How about just letting the F1 drivers run in the Indy 500? (Indy used to get F1 points, back when "world driving champion" had to know more than one kind of car. Heck, today F1 gets drivers who can't even rent an Avis. (too young) ;))

How is it too tight? IIRC, the original F1 layout was very very fast.

They're no more unique than Champ Car, A1GP, GP2, Formula 3000/Nippon, Formula 3, Formula Renault, Formula BMW...

    What 'unique facilities'?
