I'll be in Memphis on my way to/from Indy, and was wondering where should we stop for lunch? Anything quintessential? Thanks in advance.

Corky's BBQ is always good. So is the Rendezvous. I guess it depends on how much time you have but if you're coming through Memphis you have to get some BBQ.

Corky is just a chain. The other place is a bit touristy.

"Paulette's" is a source of good eating.

The Peabody Hotel has an Italian place that was good.
    "Puccini and Pasta"

You can not go to Memphis and have Italian. You need to go to Rendezvous. it's dry rub BBQ at it's finest. Rendezvous is widely regarded as a BBQ landmark. Although it's hard to find (it's in an alley) and you will think the lack of menu options is a little strange (it's pickles with your BBQ or not), you will love the ribs.

Germantown is a Memphis suburb. Although Corky's is a chain I like it a lot better than the Rendezvous. The original one has a lot of atmosphere and the food is great.

If you come here to eat and you don't eat at the Rendezvous people will wonder what happen to you. It is that famous! If it is your first time then you must have the ribs, dry. After that you can say you've been to the Rendezvous and ate their ribs, BUT their best meal is actually their BBQ chicken! Try it you'll like it.
Also would you like to meet a few of the local Ferrarists'? If so send me a ofline email with your contact info and timeframe and I'll get it passed around the Memphis group and see if we can make a adventure of it. Ferrari parking will have to be arranged I don't like the garage next to the Rendezvous but the Peabosy valet will work nicely. Also eat desert at the Peabody.
Also we're having a car show on Father's Day if you can make it.

Here is a link to the Rendezvous BBQ website. Be sure and check their hours of operation vs. your time in Memphis. There are some days they are not open for lunch. If that's the case and you are downtown there are some fun places on Beale St. (just a few blocks from the Rendezvous) like the Blues City Cafe and The Rum Boogie Cafe. If you have an extra hour to kill you might want to see Memphis' own Smithsonian Affiliate, The Memphis Rock N Soul Museum at the FedEx Forum half a block south of Beale St.

Too bad you can't make the car show.
