I did a pressure test on the K-Jet on my '83 400i today. Something that none of the how-to materials that I have seen will tell you is that removing the banjo fittings from the fuel distributor and warm-up regulator will require replacement washers for reassembly, or you get leaks. So where do we get our replacement washers here in the States?

I believe the Porsche 911 77 - 82 with CIS and 1980s water-cooled VWs share the same type of washer.

I wood try your local VW - Porsche parts department or NAPA ?

Thanks for the replies. I did order 16 washers at $.90 apiece from Ricambi. What troubles me is they list the same part number for both ends of the fuel line which runs from the fuel distributor to the WUR, but they are quite obviously not the same size in real life. The banjo at the distributor is about 7.75 mm in diameter and the one at the WUR is about 9.75 mm. The inner diameter of the washer must match the banjo, and the other diameter must match the machined recesses in the female ends at the distributor and the WUR. So we shall see which end the Ricambi washers will fit (if any?)

Today I will try the heat ("annealing") process described in a thread -- http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74219 -- that is linked to in Steve's thread. If nothing else I know that my pressure test kit will also function as a fuel line. ;)

Here's the page for those interested.

    http://www.imperialsupplies.com/itmsrch.asp?SearchString=copper+sealing+washers&Action=Search&narrow=&useOld=true

But since there hasn't been a full description of the sizes , I searched & searched & finally found a thread you started over 3 yrs. ago with the sizes...

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=234959

& described them to be 8mm X 10mm X 1mm & 10mm X 12mm X 1mm but for the life of me I can't find them on the above page that I posted. Ken, could you post the specific page & part #'s you're referring to? Thanks, Bruce

    Ken,

I got there on the 1st click as well but couldn't find the specified sizes you mentioned, i.e., 8mm X 10mm X 1mm & 10mm X 12mm X 1mm. I then searched for 'copper sealing washers' & was directed to the same page. Did I miss it somewhere?? Bruce

It's sad :( that I searched for almost an hour on Fchat & couln't find specs on this stuff (copper washers specifically). I got this on a search on a De Lorean forum when I googled 'Bosch K-Jetronic'. Why am I going there for this stuff?

    http://www.specialtauto.com/delorean-parts/fuel-injection.html

Scroll down to the bottom of the webpage to reference parts & specs.
Also, there are some informative descriptions included with other K-Jet associated parts & typical faults that arise with them. Some of these faults I have read about here recently, so take note & document.
I attached some screenshots of specs. on that 'one' webpage so that someone in the future will be able to find it on Fchat in the event this page/site disappears.

    From a VW site!!!

M8--Small ones on top of injectors and fuel dist............7-9 ft lb.
M10--Top of the warm up regulator with a smaller #8.....9-11 ft lb.
M12 & larger--On side of the fuel distributor.................14-17 ft lb.
    M14--Cap nut.........................................................18-22 ft lb.

I'm thinking K-Jet is K-Jet. If in doubt, let's verify this stuff!

I was just guessing with my 10 mm WUR banjo last Saturday, but I set my inch-lb torque wrench for 100 inch-lbs (8.3 ft-lbs) and that's a pretty hard twist to apply to hollow bolts going into an aluminum housing. I don't care what any torque spec says, I will not exceed 110 inch-lbs. Too scary!

Before I found Imperial supplies I bought two sets from the Delorean site. Unfortunately you get a lot of washers you will never use and not enough for a V-12.

Do you still not see sizes on the Imperial site? I clicked on the link I posted on this forum and it opens right to a page with all the dimensions.
