I need reliable source of a 348 to buy? Tell me where to start please! I want Black/Black or Black/Tan at under 50,000.00. Do not need show car, but a daily driver. How can I find one?

There is a very nice one for sale in Los Angeles. Look at FerrariAds V8 section. It is right in your price range, but not black, however beautiful. Good luck. I would also look at Naples Motorsports in Florida as they seem to be getting quite a few exotic cars.

Be careful about finding a "cheap" Ferrari. The price point that you are looking at will be a car that probably has all or some of the following:

    No service records
    Accident History
    Paintwork
    Needs a major

I have 2 friends that were looking at the same car...a '92 348ts with 35,000 miles. Asking 45K. The car had no records, had some paint and body work and nobody could say when or whom had done the last major (if ever). I advised them both to run. One guy ran and got a car from a reputable source with history, records, fresh service, etc....paid $63K.

The other guy bought the 'cheap' car for $41,500. within 2 months it threw a timing belt. During the engine rebuild...some major body damage was uncovered that was fixed poorly. It's now $30K in repairs...so now he's into the 'cheap' 348 for $71,500, and he still has a car with no records, accident history and a story. The other guy has been driving for a year and a half with nothing but smiles.

Bottom line is don't be cheap!

    Ciao...Dino

I guarantee you can find a well taken care of 348 for $50K all day long with no stories attached. Now...if you see one for under $40K then I would start asking some questions. $63K? That's insane for a 348 of any color. Go getcha a good one for $50K. It won't be difficult.

I have been looking around for a nice Black'Tan 348 with under 20K on the clock for a while now. I have found a '93 (SS) in NC with 18K, no service since '98, and it needs tires. The dealer wants $67,5 for it. They also have a '92 with 6K on it, they want $72,000 for it.

There are alot of 348's out there for over $60K, unfortunatly. The SS and the spider command a premium, but even the pre '93s with low miles are being marketed at very high prices.

I don't think 63K is too much to pay for a really nice low mile car, especially if it's had service, and is a SS. but 70 is WAY too high.

This brings me to a question I had for the group. When buying a car, how does the service (more specifically, the needed service) play into the price? I would think that if one were to ask full retail for a car, it would have all the needed service and tires. basically a Ready To Go car.

Here is a scenario: Dealer is asking $67,500 for the car. Normal market for the car is about $63K to $65K. Car needs engine out service and tires. What would be an offer? $65K with service and tires, or about $58K $59K without.

    Thoughts?

Your just going to have to feel that out. In my case, even though the car had only 5,600 miles on it, it's still a 14 year old car, and needed service including engine out timming belt...in my opinion, but I couldn't convince the dealer of this, it was good to go in his opinion so I only got a little off the asking price and paid for the service myself, this raised what I paid for the car overall, but it's basically a new car now, and peace of mind is worth $$.

When you start talking about sub 20K miles 348's, you're in a whole different class of cars: Garage Queens. Queens fetch a premium, but you will likely have as many problems or more with the Queen as a car with twice or three times the miles, as it is still a 14 year old car +/-, plus it has been SITTING. Not a good thing for cars. Try to find one that's driven at least a couple thousand miles a year for goodness sake. You need to do that just to keep everything lubed up. That puts you into more of a 30-40K miles car and gets you to your $50K.

I think those #'s are close but it still depends on SERVICE RECORDS.
A car with a few miles will def have most problems sorted out by the previous owners (lucky you).

The SS do command a higher price generally but 67.5 seems way too high.

I've been considering selling my 93 Speciale and if I do, after all the work that's been done to bring it more up to spec, I'd probably list it at $62k. Basically a ready to go car...
