I have a fairly cheap outdoor use type car cover that is not particularly soft. I was visiting my father last week and his 348 spider came with a really nice car cover that was like thick cotton on the outside and almost like a sweathshirt on the inside. I was wondering what recommendations people here have for an indoor use only car cover for a 348. I did use the search button and did not find my answer there.

There have been several good threads on car covers. Basically, they boil down to this: For outdoor use, get a Noah cover. I picked up a Noah fabric cover made by California Car Covers and it's excellent. For indoor use, there are several good fabrics. I have two different California "indoor only" covers and they are great. Just google "california car covers" and a bunch of places pop up that discount them and you can order them stock or custom fit right over the internet. I'm sure there are other good brands, but I've had good luck with the CCC products. NAYYY, just a happy customer.

I'm looking for a loose-fitting cover (indoor use). Most of the manufacturers seem to think we all want covers that fit like Britney's britches....

I agree. I just picked up the Ferrari from the paint shop having the spoiler repainted. I want to keep the dust off without marking the paint. No need for a tight fit, generally the wind is less than 40 MPH in the garage.

Is it worth it to go OEM through Ferrari?

I recommend a "Dustop" cover, which is designed for indoor use. It is what I got for my 328 to keep it comfortable in the garage. Go to:

    http://www.carcoverworld.com

Select "Dustop", then your make, year, and model. Note that they also have covers for outdoor use.

FYI If you go to the "Owners" area of:

    http://www.ferrari.com

you can also order the factory's cover (red with large black Cavallino). However you would not want to use this away from your own, protected garage, because it would disappear quickly. Also if you want to keep your car as anonymous as possible when covered, say in an apartment house garage, you wouldn't want such a dazzler.

Being risk averse, I ask: what kind of car cover can protect my car in a locked, underground parking lot where there MAY BE water pipes or sprinklers overhead that leak or get activated. And what kind of car cover can I take with me when I take my 355 Spider or BMW M5 on a trip and want to protect it from the elements outside a motel, or simply camoflauge it. The answer is: almost all the car covers I get are OK for one or another specialty reason, but suck the big one for the more general, challening reasons. That is, until a few years ago when, I found a $60 car cover at Pep Boys that is exceptionally light, waterproof, and with breathing vents. Since then, I've chucked my $300 BMW car cover (water seeps through), my bull**** dust covers, and my stupid Ferrari emblem covers. Get one that's water proof with vents, and relax about water and pitch stains, pipes bursting overhead, etc.
