Ok, sounds like a silly question. Engine's in the back, battery's in the front. When setting the timing, where do you get power for your light? Do you have looooong power cables for your light? Plug in somewhere else?

I had a similar problem with a BMW 2002 when I relocated the battery to the back. The first time I used my timing light, I had no place to get power. I ended up putting in a power distribution block at the front of the car to clip my light into.

The Mondial has a 12V socket in the engine bay, where you can plug in the emergency light and other equipment.

On the 328 there is a power connector on the right side of the engine cover that powers the number plate lights - I use that & switch the side lights on (!)

A jumper cable and a piece of 1" X 2" wood (to keep the clamps apart).

I also use a piece of 1X2 wood to keep jumper cables apart, but one of these days I'll make an adapter for the 12V aux. lamp socket in the engine bay.

I use the +12v line on one of the coils.

I did the same as tommott77 -- you just plonk an auxiliary 12V battery down on the ground at the rear end of the car.
