My wife and I are doing the European delivery of a new BMW in July and have decided to take in the European Grand Prix while we are there. The F1 website does not do much in terms of laying out the differences in the ticket options. For those who have been there what section would you suggest?

Depending on your time frame for going to Germany, the 1000 KM of Nurburgring is 29 & 30 June, 1 July. It's an LMS race. Having just recently been to Monza for an LMS race - it's by far the best to see. You have four classes of cars on the track simultaneously, you can go virtually anywhere to sit and watch, the race goes for 4 hours, the paddock is open to everyone, for 25€ you can get a pit walk pass allowing you in pit lane prior to grid formation, we got the discovery package from LMS (about 150€ pp) included VIP parking, lunch Saturday & Sunday, pit walk, race tickets, program, there's an autograph session and more. There's also several support races including a fantastic CER (Classic Endurance racing) race that had the most M1's I've ever seen together. www.lemans-series.com Definitely Fan Friendly. There's some top notch F430's running in GT2 - AF Corse, GPC, Scuderia Ecosse and more. These guys will have just been Le Mans prior to this race. Substantially cheaper than the F1 race where your Sunday seat is often times more than it cost for two of us for the LMS race. (The seats we inhabitated for a while at Monza sell for 300+€ each for Sunday for the F1 race!)

Can't be of assistance with seats for the F1 race, could help if it were at Hockenheim.

That's for the GP at Hockenheim. If there are two GPs in the same country, then they use this title. Same will hold true for Valencia going forward.

For the Ring I would suggest 3, 4 or 8.

    3 ueberdacht = covered main
    3 ADAC = main, uncovered
Those have the obvious advantage of the view of the s/f line, the ceremony and the pits. The Eiffel region is somewhat unpredictable with the weather, so covered stands might be a good idea. Although it is not that much of a gamble.

4 has probably the most interesting views and shows different parts of the track.

8 is popular because you can see the cars for a while.

In the end it comes down to $$$. With MS gone you should be able to get some tickets (it is always best to visit a GP where there is currently no local hero, was I lucky to have seen Barcelona before Alonso got the title, what a mad house it has become now). One thing to consider is, that the Ring track was built after the Lauda accident and they played it way safe with run off areas, which is why at this track you normally sit wayyyyy awayyy from the action. I'd pick 3 ADAC.

PS: I haven't seen the GP at the Ring, but was there for a vintage test day. Here some shots from the pits back to the covered main stand.
