My family is meeting my sister, my niece and my nephew for a trip to the "happiest place on earth" in late July. I do not want to stay in one of the park hotels as I will need some sort of a break from all of that happiness.

Do you have any suggestions for decent hotels to stay at that are walking distance from the park, if they exist? I don't need the Ritz but don't want to stay in a Teepee either. Lastly, are there better places than others to purchase Disneyland tickets?

    Thanks in advance.

Marriott, Hilton, Courtyard by Marriott, Doubletree, and Holiday Inn Express are all within walking distance.

    Don't know about the tickets.

IMHO better to keep the quality level up & stay at a Disney hotel. Nothing worse than paying out the nose for a great day in the park, then ruining that high to slum it in a place like the Hotel Menage - which turned out to be an overhyped Motel 6 conversion.

The one with the Rose restaurant famous for their wines is nice, the Grand Californian I think...you go in there, and it is not like being at disneyland...You will like it...I am sure it is a bit pricey? they have their own private entrance to the park, no lines...have a nice stay!

Cool info and good timing, we are planning a little getaway to Disneyland and Calif Adventure with the kids and some friends very soon :)

    Keep the info coming.
Disneyland hotel is a dump, but I have a problem comparing a lot of hotel to the Wynn in Vegas :D

As for discount tickets, I never seem to find them. Best I could ever do was the AAA discount, and avoid spending extra on the park hopper tickets if you can (California Adventure is a waste of time IMHO).

LOL I was actually going to type the same thing into my advice. But if you think you're spoiled now, it only gets worse... after staying at Encore I can't stay in the Wynn tower! Let me know when you go to Dland, VTC, and I will try to stop by and say hello.

They just remodeled most of the property I believe, but yes its mediocre. The Grand California is much better.

Dave, have you stayed here? It looks nice in the photos. Sometimes the photos look better than the place. Thanks for the input :)

One of buddies found a 3 day pass for $139, so far it's the best deal

Will let you know when we are there, it's looking like 2 weeks from now

I think they forgot about Goofy's kitchen :) It still looked terrible last year (unless they remodeled since)

Yea, discounted tickets seem hard to come by. I can get them through my employer but they're not much of a discount. I forget how much exactly, but like 10% off or less. I'm always amazed how Disneyland can charge so much for tickets.

We stayed at the Residence Inn. They gave us a loft suite with a kitchen and breakfast.

It's a nice place to stay with a family and it's across the street from the park.

Disney's Grand Californian is THE E-Ticket if this trip is going to be somewhat of a special one for you. It's a tad pricey, but a wonderful property that is right in California Adventure.

I happened to see a summer ticket offer at a cash register for SoCal residents.

3 day pass for $139, 1 park per day. The 3 day park hopper is 199.

Both families we are going with want to stay at the Disneyland hotel, go figure :(
"We want to stay at a Disney themed hotel, if we wanted a reg hotel we could just stay home and drive the 20 minutes to the park." I guess they have a point

Nothing is GREAT around Disneyland but the Grand Californian has everything beat for ease to the parks, downtown Disney and the like. I only go for my dental convention in May, usually $275/ nt. but probably $400+ for summer non corporate rate. Hilton at the convention center is the nicest hotel otherwise you can walk to the park from, not quite the experience, though. The Disneyland Hotel is a major step down, paper thin walls, be ready to get 5 hrs of sleep staying there. Hope this helps, have fun.

Disneyland was super crowded (even for a weekday in the summer), same with California adventure.
Soaring over California was great!! Especially flying over farmland and smelling that wonderful smell!
Oh, and the orange fields were cool too :)

Maybe it's gotten better over the years, but, I wouldn't stay anywhere near Disneyland. The area has always been a cesspool of rotten people.
