Where's a good place to buy body panels?

    My mirror and mirror post are rusty, I talked to a body shop about it and they suggested just replacing the part rather than trying to recondition it. Where can I get stuff like this?

    last time I looked for one "new" door mirrors from parts dealers were unobtanium & second hand ones were in the thousands. If you buy a second hand one you'll need to have it repainted so you may as well just get yours repaired. It'll be quicker and far cheaper. Oh, and whatever you do, don't break the mirror glass...

    I would absolutely get that part repaired. A replacement as already said would be big money and need painting anyways. It is totally possible to neutralize that rust and fix it to perfection without a huge amount of work.

    No way would buying a new one be less expensive than fixing what you have. Anything you buy -- and let's assume you find a brand new/original mirror -- will need plenty of prep & paint to match the door. Buying something used suddenly entails your perception of acceptable quality vs. the seller's perception.... and more prep & paint.

    I'm fine with a used part. I just haven't seen any mirror pods at the few breakers I've found. Looking for alternatives

    If I remember correctly the stem of the wing mirror is aluminium so that's not rust. Id remove it anyway but if you use something like a wire brush on a drill you should be able to remove the paint and be left with a clean finish.

    i don't see how a body shop cant repair that.

    The mirror comes apart easily or should be easy for a body shop.

    unlike a basic car where millions are made these are a bit harder to find, the cost isn't going to be cheap and the new part still needs to be painted.

    Looking at the picture it seems like the added work on the rusted part compared to a new part will be less than 1 hour of labor.

    So, the only way a NOS part would be cheaper is if you are playing the body-person $1,000 per hour.
    The going rate around here is $25-$100 depending.

    The important thing about aluminum corrosion is it must be properly chemically treated once stripped. If you scraped off the blistering paint it would likely reveal a white powder and severe pitting of the surface. Once treated, metal prepped, primed & filled, and painted.....good as new ! This type of corrosion is common in aircraft structures especially in float planes.
