1st Torque tube #8341 2nd, #8311 3rd, #8317, Then 8323, 8327, 8337 etc. The cars were not assembled sequentially, so lowest number is 8311, earliest car is 8341.
To be certain, I went back and looked through my records carefully and my previous statement was incorrect in more ways than one. I have a 08311 clearly identified by Dyke Ridgley in Cavallino #9 as the first 275 GTB with torque tube. No doubt, Dyke was referring to the lowest chassis number with that feature. As for the assembly order of these cars, I have: 08341 08311 08317 08323 08337 08305 08327 That would make 08341 the first chronologically, but notice 08305 in there? When I check my notes on 08305, I have a record of it being described as a torque tube car when advertised for sale in 1991. I also have a note that Mike Sheehan confirmed this to be the case when he had the car for sale in 1992. So, it's quite possible that the lowest numbered car with torque tube from new is actually 08305.
I think 8305 is now in Germany, and in 2014 it was noted the car has a 4 mount engine which theoretically discounts torque tube. But then again we could have the only 4 mount engine matched to TT.? The mysteries of old Ferrari, never a bottom line !
Can you say where it was and who inspected it at that time? And for fun, see the attached list compiled by Dyke Ridgley (with 08305 as the lowest number torque tube car as well). Perhaps Dyke will comment. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have just been looking at the Orion auction catalogue, November 1991, and lot #10 was alloy 275GTB, chassis 8041, from the collection of Jacques Setton. The description reads that it has a 2 mount motor and torque tube. Where is this car today?
I have posted a pic of 08041 in 1991 here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/cyrilteste/15112998390/in/album-72157647421967930/
I purchased Dr. Abby Dodd's 1966 Jaguar XKE 4.2 on Nov 18, 1982 at his Long Beach home. We talked cars - although he didn't mention a 275.
I can attest that 8341 is indeed a torque tube and factory 6 carb. I've had it for 20 years. It was born on February 22, 1966. I always thought that the torque tubes started much earlier. Interesting to find this out.
By 2012 the car belonged to Marseilles dealer Jean Guikas, repainted Blu Scuro Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
