I have norrowed my selection down to 2 cars a 1978 carb or 1983 QV. Both are about equal in miles and condition and the price is not a determining factor. Which car would you choose and why?

    I had a 78 and I have 83. I prefer the 83 for many reasons more then the 78.

the 78 had the sound but had a lot of issues in regards to the age of it.

the 83 is a more drivable car being FI and not carbed. I also like the interior a lot better.

Regardless of the the choice, get the best car you can afford

I left out the fact that the 1983 QV is a Euro car if that makes a difference

I'm fairly new to Ferrari world. I bought my 83 QV EURO last summer and absolutely love my car. (When I drive it I not only get an adrenaline rush but also an erection.)
But since then I've learned a little and all I want to say is that all those little tiny fuel lines on the injected cars make me nervous (fear of fire) especially when I think of the age of the system. I believe the carb model your looking at has more power than the QV. But true your mechanical skills will need to be higher for the carb model,

It seems that the injected cars have their own gremlins to sort out, but, I would go that route if you are planning on tracking the car. I say this because my carbed 308 bobbles in hard turns due to the floats in the carbs. I have heard that this is common. Also, if you ever want to turbo or supercharge your car, start with a FI car. Just my 2 cents.

    I have owned both types.....

    In a nutshell,
    The carb cars are cooler
QV's are easier to live with.

If you like to tinker, the carb cars can be fun. If you like to drive a lot, the QV is the way to go. Neither model has much performance compared with today's cars, so that should not be a factor.

Carb cars are cool, but I would go with the newer. Don't know to much about Euro cars except I heard they are hard to sell. If you can I would also look at the 328 may cost alittle more now, but may safe you in the future.

I believe Euro cars are worth more and only hard to sell in states with strict smog laws. Some states have exemptions for cars over 20 years old. But in any state if you buy a Euro make sure you get the EPA and DOT documents that accompanied it when it was imported otherwise it could be a smuggled black market car and who knows what kind of problems can come with that.

The fact that the car is a Euro is a +, IMO. They are lighter than the US version, bumpers are recessed and faster than the US version.
