I'm partial to the spider, but that's just me. Just remember there was an ecu upgrade in '02 or '03 which was not standard on early models. Tough choice, but be picky and don't compromise. Lotta good 360's out there if you know where to look.

    Good luck.

The 360 Spider is very tasteful and rare in this color combination.
And as mentioned before it is a 2002 model which has probably received
motor management and F1-Transmission software updates ;) :)

You can ask the black Ferrari's owner if any software updates have been made.
Of course, written proof is a must, usually specified in a receipt!

Also, ask and investigate in the authenticity of the mileage.
Look for hidden oil-change tags, these can reveal the real mileage of the car!

Full service history and full documentation are also important.
Timing Belt changes in the given period of 3 years!

Tires not to be older than 4 years, and a test drive is a must.
Any odd engine or transmission sounds - Revving and F1 gear change must be smooth!

I would also take a Paint-Meter with me, for example an Elcometer or a PosiTest!
Lift the car and look for any signs of leaks, accidents, racetrack gravel and extreme speed bump scrapes!

Honestly, I am not a great fan of extremely low mileage cars,
because cars that stood more than they were driven may have
engine and other leaks caused by dried up bearings!

I am a Coupe fan, the chassis is lighter and more rigid,
this results in better driving dynamics!

Both are tempting on the photos, but nothing is like an observation in person ;)
Think of Porn Stars, they are sexier on photos than in real life . . . LOL
A Diva must have inner qualities too :D

At the end it is up to you,
buy the car that blocked your mind and made your heart race :D

    Joseph

I think the black coupe is over-priced.

Spider color combo is not for me, and if you are considering resale value, that's a concern. But if you like the color combo, I wouldn't turn it down because of a resale value issue. You probably have a room to go down on price w/ this Spider also, especially given relatively high mileage (although it's probably better than one that hasn't been driven at all).

ECU wasn't changed. The TCU was upgraded but this is pretty easy and not too expensive to change.

Honestly, belts are overblown. It doesn't matter if they were changed every 3 years so long as they didn't fail and you get them done if needed. Think about the mechanics of this and it will make sense.

As discussed at length, paint meters are almost useless on a Ferrari. The paint is hugely variable right out of the factory. Plus, the nose is often resprayed because of rock chips.

The best advice you can get is to read the sticky at the top of this forum. It has a lot of details.

I would say the black coupe is worth about $85K if everything checks out Ok. Don't like the wheels. The blue spyder is about fully priced.

I think the blue exterior looks grand, but the blue interior doesn't. I looked at a coupe with this color combo and just couldn't get myself to buy it despite the fact that it was a good car at a low price. Look at it before you buy it - if you like it - cool. But be aware that you will always get less wehn you sell. Does it have the Daytona seats? IMO, the Daytonas are a big advantage - $5K or more.

    1) Buy what YOU want, if you like blue/blue, buy it and to hell with any implied resale issues.

    2) Just do a LOT of digging and reading. Some folks are scared to death of the F1 tranny, some are not, it's up to you.

    3) You can buy the 'perfect car' and have it blow up on the way home, just like any other car.

The blue spider is the better buy, if it checks out mechanically. Do invest in a PPI.
Black, in California sun, shows every speck of dust and every blemish and swirl mark and therefore has to be cleaned constantly to keep it looking sharp. Many 2000 and 2001 360's have problems passing smog tests in Ca. Most important---Make sure that you get 2 black fobs and 1 red fob as well as at least 2 keys AND check that the PIN code is correct for your car. Any omissions here and you are faced with a bill of between $800 and $2000 to rectify. If your PIN is incorrect and your fob battery dies, or it fails for any reason, your car is undriveable.

I'd have to see that blue one in person. That color combo could be a winner or a loser.

I like the spider but the interior does not work for me.

Keep looking until you find exactly what you like. These cars are so different. Decide what options/colors/transmission/ spider vs coupe that you want and go from there.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I re-read through the sticky at the top of the forum and then test drove the 2001. It's tight, F1 shifts crisp and smooth, tubi sounds great... but until the Bentley dealer took it in on trade it hadn't been serviced since 2002. So the Bentley dealer had the belts done (for the first time) and some fluids changed. It doesn't look like it has had any of the recalls/campaigns done. It's frustrating because this is really the car I'm looking for, but I feel like I should hold out for a 2002 or newer and one with a few more miles. I believe the car sat parked, not driven for very long periods of time. Also weird, the previous owner repainted (and did a poor job, rattle can) various pieces on the center console. The salesman told me a previous offer of $83k was turned down and that it would probably take about $85k to take it home.

I haven't been down to look at the blue 2002 in person yet...

    Neither one.

    What a waste of a nice Black/Black 360.. 4000 miles on a 01 makes me so mad.

I agree. As a x-360 owner, there are more better cars with better prices. I wouldn't take either cars.

You will like the grigio alloy in person. Very light blue in the day but silver as it gets darker, this color really shows the lines of the car.
