Out of all of the cars you have owned, which got you the most overt attention? Since I have had my testarossa, I have been somewhat surprised by the lack of attention. Not that its desirable at all times, but occasionally its nice. I figured it was a Wisconsin thing. Then, I got my 914. Within 2 days I had 2 seperate neighbors ring my doorbell to see the car. One other one just ran right into my garage... Now, mind you, the testarossa is parked 1 car stall away - absolutely no comment. Mentioned to one neighbor, that if he likes the 914, he will love this other car I have...pointing to the testarossa. His comment? "Oh yeah, I saw that parked in your garage." Didn't even WANT to look at it... Go figure. Sometimes I am shocked at cars that get attention, and ones that don't. Of my recent cars, this is what the attention pecking order looks like: 914 (beautiful dark blue) > 76 911s (silver) > 996 (black/aerokit) > testarossa (white). Go figure. I though folks might assume a ferrari driver is uptight, and that why I wasn't approached. But geesh, when I offer to let people look at it, they still seem disinclined... Anyone else notice that???? One of my friends collects vettes. One day he bought a pristine 6000 mile bone stock inline 6 Nova...in puke green...same interior with bench seats. Said he got mobbed with questions everywhere he went. Vettes got little attention. What is it? Nostalgia? Love of simple engineering? WHAT?
The biggest attention getter I ever drove was a mostly-stock 1948 Plymouth 2 door sedan with chrome steelie rims. I drove it in college, then it got destroyed by a drunk driver while it was parked in the back yard(!)
Realistic attainablity I think, the 914 is acheivable so would be a Nova to almost anyone that would want one. Mine would go BB which gets so much attention it drives me nuts to drive around any congested areas, the 328 which gets a reasonable amount and is liveable then my 930.
i get a lot of attention in my black 308 - the most out of all sports cars i have owned, next would have been my old 68 442 convertible, then the old stingray convertibles.
Best ever had to be a brand new 1969 Porsche 911T Targa, brand new in Sept. 1969. In Oklahoma City! In day-glo ORANGE! This lasted through the winter, but when spring came, more new Porsches came too. Worst ever (considering what it is) - still have black on black 1995 Corvette ZR1 serial number 401 of the last 448 made. It is in immaculate condition. Most people kind of feel sorry for me, like as if I had a divorce or something and just couldn't afford a new Vette for the last two generations. Once in a while a young kid in a Camaro will give me the thumbs up, though...
I think the car that got the most attention overall was a friend's mid-range plymouth (around '70 or so). Everybody wanted to know which mill it had. As it was a low end mill, he got tired of answering. So we rigged up a speaker and some surplus gear from the sound lab. After that, the "exhast note" was the warble sound effect like the original 1938 Mercury Theatre "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast, even rigged to change rate with the tach. Now that was an attention-getter. But nobody wanted to ask what kind of engine it had.
1970 LS6 Chevelle. They loved the flapper on the rear facing hood scoop. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
for a car, prob the Pantera. now, for overall attention, it'd have to be the 1950 HD Panhead chopper, especially blasting down the road. Here's a pic from a "few" years back- Image Unavailable, Please Login
The 348 seems to be a huge attention getter around here. I've been sitting next to other highend cars, and had people ignore them to look at the Ferrari. Kids smiling, adults grinning like they were kids...etc...etc..... It kind of makes me feel uncomfortable at times.
My 240Z still gets more attention than my Ferrari. This is mosty due the throaty V8 rumble coming from the duel Suppertraps where lookers wonder what kind of car it is.
Of all the cars I've ever driven and in which I've ridden, nothing has ever seen more attention than Gerald's Tojeiro MG... Loy 501, one of three ever made, is a little MG racecar... Of the few times I've been lucky enough to be a passenger, the one time we got more attention than ever was when we were sitting in traffic, on the interstate, on a Saturday morning, in the piss-pouring rain... It was awesome... Image Unavailable, Please Login
1968 VW Squareback. It was my oldest brother's, and when it quit running, my parents said he could give it to me and another brother (my parent's thought we would never get it running... bad assumption) Problem is I was 12 and devin was 14. we drove our new car to junior high (6th and 8th grade). the principle wasn't impressed... The pic is not the exact car, but same model / year / color Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maserati Merak SS ( flying butteresses and all and it was fly a.k.a taxi cab yellow in NYC) and the XKE roadster (esp. when I took it up to killington skiing in the snow)
I dont think many cars will beat that orange diablo...by far.... for me so far in what I've owned the NSX and Viper.
NSX...people don't see them very often, and when they do, they don't know what the heck kind of car it is.
I get the most attention in my Testarossa, but I stiil get a lot of looks in my 71 Mach 1 Image Unavailable, Please Login
My Mustang draws more of a crowd then my 328..also you can see in the engine pic the back half of the 66 Olds, that also seems to be more interestinf than the ferrari, but the Mustang is the crowd pleaser... My Countach makes new friends everywhere it goes. Like they said on the old 60 minutes story of Lamborghini. " It is not what the Countach does for you but what it does to the people around it"
I used to own a 1969 Camaro RS-SS Convertible and when I would take it to a club or out to dinner they would move Bentleys and top of the line Bimmers and Mercedes to park my car where everyone could see it. Mind you I never asked them to do this. At that same period of time I owned a 911 Turbo that was all tricked out and I got no special treatment at all.
