I'd love to get a C4 Corvette, or a Mazda RX7 twin turbo, or a BMW M5 BUT

I'm concerned about security, gasoline octane etc

I think the M5 is the most reasonable, I'd prefer a black 1 to blend in more

    what do you think ?

Get an old FIAT 147. Still not a guarantee against "government sponsored" crime.
Vamos, Bill, vos estuviste en Buenos Aires. Now crime is 100 times worse.

That sux, I guess its back to Remis :)

Has crime really gotten that bad ?

    What about kidnappings ?

How are Palermo, Belgrano, Recoleta, & Puerto Madero ?

Bill, those areas are OK, as long as you don't wear a T Shirt that says I'm a tourist.
I mean not only crime, but the retail stores will definitely 'nail you' unless a local is with you and knows where to go and where to stay off limits.
As far as driving in BA goes, don't even try it. Renting a car is expensive and useless, when you can hop on a "Radio Taxi" or a "Remise" for change and not having to worry about maniac drivers and parking.
I don't know how long ago you were in BA, but crime got a lot worse under the K government.

That is weird as we see more and more Ferraris in Argentina ! I thought it had gotten better after the crisis.

Yes they all disapeared in Dec 01 for a few years

I was in BA back in Jan and I saw a new M5, lots of MBs, BMWs etc. I dont think I saw any Ferraris, maybe 1 or 2 at dealers

I was thinking of getting a black last gen M5

I'd love to get a C4 Vette there BUT then I think about kidnappings :(

In BA you'll see Bimmers, Audis, Mercedes, and most Euro makes. Ferraris are only a very few, and always a feast for everyone's eyes. Remember that buying an import over there costs an average 40 to 50% more than in the U.S.
It is a country with amazing contrasts... You can stand on a traffic light and watch a brand new M5 next to a 2 stroke DKW (now called Audi).
Mr. "K" is indeed a leftie, but does not like Ladas.

I don't think Mr. "K" or any of his penguins will bring F1 back to Argentina.

I have been in BA many times both for business and pleasure. BMW, Audi or Mercedes will not stand out too much in Puerto Madero, Recoleta type of spots. Plenty of my Argentine friends are driving German cars w/o problems. My sense is that M5 or equivalent should be fine.

True, the Bimmer could stand BA. By the way, ask your Argentinean freinds what does the term "sos boleta'"means. LOL
