    Thanks Ross,

You have some of the coolest cars going around and when I look at the coupes, the decision for me is simply! Buy a coupe!

    I have a 993TT. High miler also. I like it a lot.

But it really depends what you want. The turbo has modernish performance with an old school wrapper. The 73 is a vintage car with all the highs and lows therewith associated.

I would take the 993, but I also don't have a bunch of other interesting cars.

    Well, I have a Dino gts, 67 911s coupe, and a 993tt.

Which is my favorite (well my speedster but that's a different call)?

    I haven't had a Porsche targa but I would go for the '73 911.
The 993tt is a keeper and I expect them to continue to increase in value while I think the early 911's have peaked fir a while.

But they are so different to drive. My 993tt was my daily and it's still too new feeling to satisfy my vintage urge. Hence the '73.

And yes a 73S should be priced higher than equivalent 993tt.

    Targa? Coupe? 993? All three choices are great. It ultimately depends on what you want to use it for. I've had a '70S coupe(black/black), '71E Targa(Conda Green), an '69 non sunroof coupe "Rgruppe"(Tangerine), a '72T Sunroof Coupe(Tangerine), '74 Carrera non sunroof coupe(Mexico Blue), an '86 3.2 triple black cab, an '89 964 Carrera 4(Grand Prix White), a '95 993 C4(Silver)and a '97 993 C4S(Silver).

Had a gorgeous full concours '70 2.2S non sunroof black/black coupe with sport seats. Like playing a violin!

My '71 2.2 E Targa was fantastic for taking in the environment and sounds especially if I only had an hour or two to spare. Much quicker and more torque than my 2.2S. Always "on the cam"! An early Targa lives and dies on it's colors and details. Mine was a 2.2E in Conda Green, black interior with sport seats, stainless roll bar, chrome details with gold badging. Absolutely stunning. Loved everything about it!

My early '69 Tangerine non sunroof early coupe is a bit more serious. Pure Rgruppe 2.8 twin plug animal! My '72 "side-fill" Tangerine sunroof coupe is much more genteel and elegant. An icon.

My old neighbor still has my '74 Mexico Blue Carrera. I still want it back!

The 17K mile all original '86 3.2 triple black cab was a great car. Somehow didn't become one of my favorites. Maybe it was stuck between not enough vintage and not enough new?

The 964 is THE best well kept secret! C4 or C2 Coupes and Targas have a loyal following. They are truly amazing. I find myself looking for excuses just to drive it. Short or long drives. I LOVE my 130K mile '89 C4!!! Best of Porsche 911 engineering! Pure Helmuth Bott Weissach!!!

The 993's really are for driving faster and longer. A much more modern experience. I had my L-Series Dino at the same time as the C4S. I found myself driving the Dino 10:1 over the C4S. Usually because it was after work or an hour on the weekend. The Dino gave me what I was looking for. The C4S was much better to drive on longer trips. My '95 993 C4 felt more connected. Loved driving that car through the canyons.

There's no wrong answer except to stop at only one!!! Each has their own aesthetic and visceral experience.

    No doubt the S.

All the reasons stated above and the fact that the early Ses are just beginning their upward appreciation.

Yep, if the car was a 72, and not a Targa, I'd vote for the S. As it stands? Would prefer the turbo in my personal stable.

Thanks Condor. Jumped onto the website to look at the S. Those tombstone seats are like nothing Ive ever seen in a small bumper 911. Very oddball. But easy to fix. The plus is it still has its original Dealer (Hamiltons) Rego number-I like that a lot. Mine is a sister car to this S Targa. Anyway here is a preview of what your new S will look like when paired with your red Dino

most posters are forgetting-as they are american-that the us delivered cars came at the advent of DOT bumpers, yadda, yadda, etc, etc
If memory serves me, as an aus delivered car, visually, the ca will look-externally-as did a 72 version-excepting for the side fill oiler door right rear flank
clarification from porsche gang is urged!

that said, its the most desireable of the small curved hooded, long wheel base cars-always buy the "S" when possible-but, caveat emptor...get docs-thoroughly know what it is, versus what they are selling-ignorance is bliss on a 40 year old car

bullit proof paperwork on miles-these are short lived engines-S internals are significantly different despite what pundits will tell you-I'm old enough to have been inside all manner of swb S versions, specials, and fakes and phonies as well...injection ran at high levels of co concentration and oil got full of gas...

"Investment grade" Porsche 911 cars, are for the most part, restricted to A, B, O chassis cars...check it out if you don't beleive me-the market speaks...
Real 2.2 S cars are special-but rare-see internals above-as are 2.4 S veresions...the more optioned, the lower the clock, the higher the price-pretty simple.
the sound of carbs still is king, however, the 69 swb 2.o S with Injection seems to stand outside the rules for most SWB cars-as they were the last-NO?

As an auto aficionado, I see myself as a "socio-mechanical-cultural anthropologist." I want the auto to be a time machine, where I can experience what a buyer would've enjoyed in-period. The sights, sounds, smells, and feeling of a vintage car is the closest we get to being transported to another era.
So what I look for as a collector is differentiated experience. What insight does each new car lend to a period where I've got a gap?
I recently got a '96 993tt, because I suddenly realized that it was now an 'older' car that embodied the best of a decade. In an era when you can buy a 600HP Mustang, or a 400HP Kia, it is easy to forget what a sensation the tt was; basically it was 'everyman's' (!) version of the 959, one of history's true milestone cars.

The 911S is a great car, but relatively speaking, not as 'important' as the 993tt, the last and ultimate expression of the aircooled 1964 911...

But it comes down to where you have the gap?

The S targa. I'm in the minority preferring targa's to coupes. I've had both, My '73E targa was quieter than my '73S coupe.

It's funny, when this was in the Dino section the 73s Targa was in the lead. Now th grass is in be Porsce section and it is the 993 TT that s winning.

So, in the end I have taken Freemans advice and I have purchase a very special 964.... More details will follow shortly.
