That is my question... 1m94, 95kg (or 6ft 4" - 209lb) I was wondering if i could buy and run a 328, but it looks like it could be small for me People told me a 355 or 360 (but too expensive for me) What is your experience with TALL drivers?? A 456 could be big enough?? Thanks Henri PS: for info, I don't fit in an Audi A4... PS2: and my budget does not reach 40k...
I have limited experience with this so take this with a grain of salt. I am 6'1 and 225/lbs. I did not fit in a 355. I fit snuggly, but OK, into my 1990 TR. My friend is 6'4 and around 250, he did not fit in my TR. Shark49 has a nice Mondial that I sat in and found it to be more roomy than my TR. The drop top was a nice benefit too. Tom Selleck (Magnum PI) is around 6'4 and he did not fit in the 308. I am sure there are some taller F-Chatters that can help out. Hope you find the right fit for you. Bill
A friend, who was about your size, couldn't drive my early Mondial because his legs were jammed around the steering wheel. With it's non-powered steering you needed the big bus driver hoops that these cars came with. The later ones had power-assist with "normal" sized steering wheels. http://www.globalautosports.com/car/1989_Ferrari_Mondial_Coupe_1946.html
You should be able to just fit a 348/355. I'm 6ft 3" and have about and inch+ of headroom. You could probably get the seat runners altered if you were really determined.
I am 6'2" tall and weigh 105kg (230lb) and fit into my 328GTS. I feel that this is the maximum height limit for the 328. I live in Australia where the climate conditions are favourable and generally do not use the roof, this plays a major part in making it a comfortable drive, particularly when the roof is not stored in the car. With the roof on, it does get tight in the cockpit. Be aware that the last series of the 328's (88/89) had improvements made to the footwell area around the pedals, the floor pan dips down allowing more room for you feet. Good luck.
First of all, thank to all of you for your VERY quick Feedback. It's amazing that people with more or less the same hight can fit or not in the same car I sat in a 328 GTS (top on) and my legs were strapped by the SW. In a 355 GTB, that was fare better but not really perfect. A friend of mine owns a TR and it's nearly not driveable I tried 360 and 430 but price is too high... Sorry for the Mondial owners, but I don't like the external style So it's out of my list. But I can easily understand that a 2+2 will give me more space. The car I could'nt even fit my legs in is the Enzo.... I also sat in the 599 and it "just" fit. Don't know if I could drive it for a long journey..... So if I summurize my situation, knowing that Mondial is not my cup of tea (neither 612 + ), I guess 456 is the next car I should try.... And where I work, I should be able to find one soon....
Proportions differ -- leg versus torso height. But I had a hard time fitting into my 328 when I first sat in it. For that matter, I have trouble with most rental cars when I first pick them up. But you find more comfortable positions before long. Give yourself a few minutes to move around and find where there's room for your knees, elbows, etc. I found that the most comfortable position in my 328 is also the optimal driving position.
I'm 6'2" in an '89 328 GTS. I think at 6'4" you would not fit in comfortably. Is a 246 better for you? How about a 308GT4? regards, Pete
I think its been mentioned on FChat before, but Shaq (US Basketball star, 7 ft. 1 inch or 2 M 16 and 325 lbs or 147.7 kg) had a 456 modified by taking out the back seat and moving the front seat back. That car has been for sale before here in the US. I think it sold around $100K (US). James in Denver PS Searching Google I found the following: Shaq's Ferrari For Sale This Weekend Posted May 19th 2006 9:03AM by Deidre Woollard Filed under: Wheels, Auctions The good thing about buying a Ferrari that used to belong to NBA star Shaquille O'Neal is that he always puts his own custom touches in. Case in point, this 1998 Ferrari F-1355 convertible. The sound system, seats and wheels have all been customized for Shaq and the car has a modified gas tank. The car is up for auction at the 15th annual Auburn Spring MotorFair this weekend through Kruse International. A sweet ride but in my opinion silver is not a good look for Ferraris. Im glad to see that others are in the same predicament as myself. Im 6'3" but my height is mainly in my legs which makes it not as enjoyable to operate a manual transmission. I fit in the passenger seat in a 348ts fine (from what i can remember) but that was several years ago. The main thing i remember is not being able to wipe the grin off my face while accelerating down the motorway. Does this just about dash my hopes at fitting in a 308/328 then? I hope thats not the case because those are the most affordable choices for me. Sorry, didn't intend to hijack the post
No worries. It completly illustrates my problem. ANd yours. And I can confirm, as I also have most of my height on my legs ->forget the 308/328 series.....
I'm 6'3", 225 lbs, and fit wonderfully in my 308 GTB. I've got about an inch of headroom, and my legs are fine, once in. Getting in is easier than getting out; I have to sort of turn my left ankle to slide my left leg out. The rest follows easily! Greg
One thing that helps a taller person fit better into a TR (or any other model) is a smaller diameter steering wheel + a steering wheel extension. With the large 365mm diameter stock TR steering wheel, it has to be tipped full up to get any clearance over the hips -- which moves the top of the steering wheel even further away from your shoulders. I'm 6'3" and going to a 320mm steering wheel with a 1.25" long extension made a huge difference -- I wouldn't call it "roomy", and I'm still in the "Italian driving position" (in order for my head to clear the roofline), but, like you said, the stock situation was really unacceptable. The 320mm diameter may be a little smallish, but even going to a 350mm diameter steering wheel + the extension (+ tipping the wheel down some) would make a big difference IMO. 6'5", 200lbs. Evenly proportionate (38" sleeve, 38" inseam), and I fit fine in my 308GTSi. Two tips that make it easier to fit: (1) don't slide the seat bottom all the way back, side it to one notch before the end, which will give you more room to angle back of the seat, and much more room to fit in the car; and (2) there is a slight angle in the standard shift rod at the bottom near the gate, I had it angled a little more; that small change at the bottom of the shift rod gives me much more room at the top, otherwise my leg got pinned between the shift knob and steering wheel.
Thanks for your feedbacks. I think I will try again a 328 this PM with your advice. -> 91TR: Good idea to change the SW + extension. That makes more room for the legs + don't have to drive with extended arms 8not really confortable). I guess the fact there is no electronics/airbag helps a lot. Maybe I can do a carbon SW with a lower "trimmed horizzontal" rim (like the F1). -> wizig: THanks for the tip: seat -1 in horizontal translation gives more freedowm for the back. Regarding your second one "shift rod at the bottom near the gate", sorry but I can't see what you are talking about Could you please explain to us more in details??
