    I'm keeping my F12. Looks great, runs great, and there is simply no replacement for that monster, naturally aspirated V12. Voice of the Norse Gods!

    After nearly 40 years of owning a wide variety of performance and/or collector cars, I've yet to find a true life-long "keeper." Most of the cars I've kept maybe 2-5 years then on to something else. Longest ownership period was about 12 years -- a "two digit" early production '65 Shelby GT350 -- and that's the only car I've had that I truly regret selling. Otherwise "variety is the spice of life" seems to be my automotive modus operandi. As my wonderful wife of 34 years says, better swapping cars that women! Probably cheaper too. ;)

    I agree with NE550. I have had a large number of sports cars, many makes, but twelve years ago I decided to get a testarossa and become a permanent owner, so I found one that had never been titled and paid a premium for it out of a collector's museum. Single mirror, knock off wheels. Attracted lots of attention and love from those who knew about these cars, and even those who didn't. But after showing it on the lawn at the Columbus National Meet in 2016, I decided that I had done as much with this car as I can, and I wanted a new experience (once again). So I traded it in for a 2010 612 OTO. My 612 is a superior driving experience in every way, more fun than the TR. It turns out that I like the paddle shift, even though I had initially thought that this was a give-up. The only regret about the shifter is that it doesn't have the honkin' stonkin' appearance of the traditional gated shifter, and some spectators got bug-eyed when they saw the massive shift gate on the TR. But stomp on it, in Sport Mode, and it sucks the air right out of my sinuses.
    I am no longer so naïve as to believe that I will keep this car permanently. But for now I am completely satisfied. It is beautiful in a more subtle way than the TR. See photo below. See what I mean?

    Really want to trade up to a 458 but CA laws require the buyer to pay full tax amount instead of subtracting trade-in value. Don't want to give state of CA an extra 15,000 so not buying any 458.
    Therefore keeping the CS.

    they don't care. People trade cars in all the time.

    My take: This is the government, more taxes means more spending waste. I pay what I have to and not a penny more. Therefore keeping my car.

    This is going to sound odd and contradictory..... I am a Motörhead..... but my first love is motorcycles...... there are 4 in the garage.... the F430 is too new for me to bond with and say it is a keeper..... funny thing is at this point in time (may change) the only true keeper is my daily driver.... V Dub GTI. I love the GTI...... suits me perfectly. All the bikes are expendable. Even the GTI could be sold, but only if I was buying a newer one. :D

    I went to A&M for two years to get my academics out of the way before I went to Berklee, so I could concentrate on music while I was there, so yes and no, I got my bachelor's from Berklee.

    Great question!

    At this point, I would agree with any naturally aspirated V8 and/or V12 exotic. One could also argue a manual shift vs. auto/paddle shift.

    Just got rid of my Bentley CFS (W12, twin turbo) but still have these two;

    Going to try and get the new SVJ as it will be, according to Lamborghini, the last of the naturally aspirated V12's they make and the end of the Aventador series.

    I would also add old motorcycles to the collection;

    There are probably two cars I can say with certainty (as much as you can say anything about the future with certainty) that I dont ever plan on selling.

    A 1978 Corvette that my father bought new for my Mom in November of 1977. I remember watching him pull it into the driveway when I was seven years old. Then I drove it in high school. Not worth much money, but the memories and emotional connection would never let me part with it. And I did have my race engine builder tear the motor apart and build it to a proper spec, so its nice and fast now, but looks stock.

    And my C6 Corvette Trans Am TA3 race car that I won the Trans Am TA3 championship in in 2014.

    Also my 97 Harley FXSTSB that I bought new while I was an engineer at Harley and chopped 20 years ago.

    I think my 1984 400i could be a long term keeper. I love the way it looks and drives and is super comfortable.

    I love my 348 Challenge car, but there may come a day when I stop racing and then stop tracking the 348 Ch. original cage and seats make it not so practical. I do also have the original leather street seats that came with this car new, and the door bars on the cage are removable, so you never know...

    I guess i'm kind of a pack rat and dont really like getting rid of anything the more I think about it!

    State Farm $163.17 per month. We have 100% windshield coverage...no deductible for replacing the windshield. Fcar windshields are expensive. In order to get this coverage the highest deductible you can have on the car is $1,000. The liability coverage is removed when stored in winter. My memory is this saves about $60 a month.

    Kahrl, Nice 612!

    There is a lot of nostalgia for older cars. But whether they be European or American, while they may look great, they really don’t drive all that great. For example, I love 60s American muscle cars (had a Cuba and a GTO among others) but today i would never own them unless they were restomods with current state of the art running gear.

    Also everyone decries the loss of the manual, but the reality is the F1 with paddle shifters can eat the lunch of any manual. And as kahrl said, paddles are actually fun. (I also bet you back in the day when 4 speeds came out there were those that said they thought a three on the tree was more “pure”.)

    So I would only think of a “modern” car as a keeper because I want to enjoy the drive. Though I recognize each to his own, I love big coupes with big engines and so the 612 is the perfect car for me as a long term keeper.

    My 1959 Cadillac drives beautifully. As did my (sold) 1968 Charger.

    And to re-state what has been said many times, those who desire a manual transmission do not care if a paddle shift is tenths faster around a track.

    Agreed on each to his own.

    I darent think about the cars I’ve bought and sold over the years, had I kept many of them I’d be sitting on a fortune now, but it was always drive it, get bored, sell it and buy the next!

    Bugatti EB110ss, F40, countless Ferrari’s from 360 through to 458 including a fair number of V12. If I had to buy one to keep now though, I think I’d like to get a nice 458 again, or an F12. I love the 488 and 812, definately upgrades on their predecessor but I do feel the lines of my favorites are a little cleaner to my eye.

    Of the older cars. F40 or ‘Miami vice’ testarossa would be the icons I’d like (no way I’d ever have enough to buy a 250 GTO now!)

    My father bought this ‘81 GTSi in the fall of 1985. It was his lifetime achievement car.

    I would never have bought a 2-valve 308 on my own. But I don’t think I’ll ever sell it now.

    Dad passed away a little over two years ago.

    Understand why you think that way.
    “trading up “ in the sense that I have to fork out additional money. Debatable about other qualities regarding which car is more desirable.

    My Toyota Prius.

    Just kidding. It's going to be my 360 though I really like my 997.. Of the two the 360 stays. No more stick cars being built means there is nothing to trade up to. for what I paid for it makes no sense to sell. Just add on.
