What is the "Gallardo to buy"? What I mean is what is the best model for the best value right now? If someone was looking for one would it be wise to try and buy a 2008 Superleggera or a newer 2009 LP560-4? I am looking for opinions on driving, future value and cost of ownership/usability. Car would be driven 2000-4000 kilometers per year. No Convertibles please. Thank you in advance.
I bought my 2008 Superleggera last year after selling my Single Mirror Testarossa. Its a brilliant car, however I would say for long journeys the bucket seats in a Euro version are quite hard work if you have a bad back. Apart from that find a car that has been well maintained, all the recall work done and all software updates. Try and find an unmolested example as some have had bumpers changed. Also contrary to what has be written they made more than 172 cars worldwide.
I also bought a Superleggera last year. I love race car derivatives like Porsche GT3, Ferrari Challenge Stradale / Scuderia / Speciale. And offcourse the Lambo Superleggera. I think they are more special than their ´normal´ sisters. They probably will keep their value better, because of the limited production numbers. But more important, the Superleggera is a great car to drive! According to GallardoSuperleggera.com, 618 cars were produced. Probably 172 cars has been shipped to the US. Best pick for the Gallardo will be the Trofeo Stradale with only 150 cars ever built, but they are quite expensive... Lewie
I have owned 3 Lambos and they are great cars. The cars built after Audi (VW group) bought them. At least 1 year after Audi. Those cars are bullet proof concerning reliability. As always newer cars always handle best. the older Galardo used to eat up clutches. They can be checked via a plug in so you know how much clutch is left. very easy to do. My friend went through his clutch in 200 miles with his new Lamborghini Galardo. These cars are not Corvettes at least prig-Audi Good luck with your purchase. Lee
I also have a 2008 Superleggera. In my opinion it has more character and rawness than the later cars, (and is a mile more exciting to drive than a Huracan.) The brakes grab at first, but you soon get used to that, and it's the same with the egear. You have to think about gear changes but that makes you feel more involved with the car, over 'more efficient' paddle shifts. You won't want to drive it in Auto mode though... My car is currently on Sottozeros and makes a great winter supercar!
fastest - STS driver's car - LP550-2 manual best all around - LP560 egear best bang for the buck - 2006-2008 2006 received a power bump, better stereo and better gearing LP560 puts more to the wheels than the 40bhp advertised differentce between the 06-08 cars Full carbon interior of the SL and STS is badass Find the one that suits you best and go for it, they are all great.
LP560-4 is the best car to be usable daily and offer very fast performance + it looks better then the first gen Gallardo cars. The slimmer headlights and rear lights plus the slightly tweaking front and rear bumpers make it better. I used it almost daily when I had it. Nice car to drive around; relatively short in length (still wide, but that is a good thing!). It is a fantastic car to be in. I wasn't a fan of the clunky e-gear transmission but it wasn't the worst experience I've ever had. The AWD felt a little heavy at times, but it provided plenty of grip. In terms of power the LP560-4 has a sufficient amount and you probably won't be wanting more. I had a Spider version and the sound with roof down is fantastic - amazing! The interior isn't as pretty as the exterior (which seems to be a theme with Lamborghini's in my opinion). Compared to the 458 or more recent cars, it looks dated and bland. Not impressive for such a car + too many similarities with an Audi (there shared parts and it shows). Overall it is a good car. Earlier pre LP Gallardo's are cheaper but have far more bugs in the transmission, AWD and overall setup of the car. They also look worse and depreciate faster. Not that the LP wont depreciate more (it has heaps of depreciation left).
