A gearbox oil change is in my near future. I have been reading threads regarding what oil should be used. After reading I see two alternatives. One is a 4 to 1 mix of Redline 75/90 NS and Redline 75/90, respectively. The other is Redline MTL I'm in a quandary as to which oil to choose. Vehicle is a 1987 GTS.
1987 328 GTB. I've used Redline 75-90 NS for about a decade now. No diff chatter and shifts smoothly when warm. -F
I have the redline MTL in a GT4 and a Mondial QV, works fine. I think it was recomended by Rifledriver here on F-chat. THAT is good enough for me. /Peter
I have used both and found excellent shift quality with MTL. Lots of debate/confusion, but I researched this and confirm either is fine and it appears MTL is closest to what the OEM design intended.
This! I tried the cocktail mix of Redline 75W90 and 75W90NS, as suggested frequently on this forum a few years ago. Then I read Brian (Rifledriver)'s statement that he uses Redline MTL in all the 308/328 cars he services, including his own. On that guidance, I tried it myself, and indeed found smoother shifting than the 75W90/NS lubricants. I would highly recommend giving straight Redline MTL a chance.
OK, thanks for all the replies. It's going to be MTL for me. My tranny is notchy so I hope this will help.
