Thoughts? I would love to buy a used 2007 599 or Cali, but both are currently out of my price range. Right now I am looking for a 575M, and will hopefully will trade it for a 599 or Cali a few years down the line.

Which is a better car? And which will get to the $150k mark first?

Where they at now used? My guess is the 599 as it's been out longer but the Cali wouldn't be far behind. In the long run I think the 599 will hold up better.

They are both different animals! :D:D

Drive them both and decide for yourself. :):)

I LOVE the 599 and my money would be on that being a "better" overall car. ;);)

They are around 5-7 yrs away from hitting $150K in Australia.:eek:

Honestly? Keep the 575M. In my purist opinion, that is the last of the GT cars with "soul."
I loved mine....and would take one over a 599 or cali if they were the same price.

I agree, should be close. I'd give it another year.

Both have a lot of expensive bits that should drive values down quickly as they age.

599 is an old design playing out the string now, so if/when Ferrari announces a replacement that should knock them down a bit.

Depends on what your mean as "better".

But in terms of being a "drivers" car, the 599 is on a different planet to the Cali. Its lighter, has more power, more torque and handles better, and maybe the most important thing, its available with a manual box.

The cali can be ordered with one as well. Although not many were.
I would go for the 599

Mr. Hubster.........although I think there is a certain amount of jest in your comment I was wondering if you have ever driven a Cali. Like many here on FChat I thought of the Cali as a soft Ferrari w/ Lexus looks. Then I drove it. Could not have been more wrong. It is a blast to drive. If you have not had the op find a friendly Cali owner and ask for a stint at the wheel.

The dual clutch gearbox made the biggest impression on me. Imperceptible in auto mode, instantaneous response in manual mode.

Convertibles tend to hold their values better. A point for the Cali.

But the 599 is a V12 with over 600 hp. A point for the 599.

I believe there will be more Calis made. A point for the 599.

Ergo, I give the edge to the 599 as far as holding value better. I also remember when the 599 was the hot ticket and going for nice premiums over MSRP. Just not feeling the Cali excitement as much.

If I'm not mistaken, in many "recent" cases that I can remember (excluding supercars) most V8 Fcars for some reason see a higher demand with age then compared to V12's that were made in and around the same time period. For this reason, I'm gonna stick with the Cali cause my gut feeling is telling me that history will repeat itself. And I do believe there is a relatively strong market for this car.

This question is silly. These are totally different cars. One, a F599, can run circles around almost any supercar in the world, including, for example, a F40. The other, the California, is a luxury sports car. You can't say one is better or worst than the other. Different folks, different strokes.

I was gonna say, I thought 599's were 280K at the lowest, and 440K at the highest, with most around 300K.

True, both cars are unique in their own way. I love them both. I'm not sure how to decide when the time comes (in a few years). I guess the true decision will be made after driving them both.

Until then, I am searching for a decent 575 for under $100k. Will sell my Maserati Granturismo if I can find one.

And has the manual gearbox, which is scarce on 575s.

I agree with you on waiting on the 599/California. They're both massively overpriced right now.

I agree, that's not a bad price, especially for one with the manual gearbox. I would *guess* those are going to bring a premium at some point, if not now.

Jon- That car had a head gasket replacement, so I hope the new owner knew that. In no way normal for a Maranello. Thorough discussion of this car in the 456/550/575M forum.

Incidentally, a black/black 07 599 with ~7K miles sold at Manheim for less than $160K. See the 612/599 forum.
