Of the models you mentioned, just the 355 requires the engine to be removed to do a "major" service or to replace the belts/bearings.

Engine in services on the 550/575.

    355's have high service costs.

IMHO you should also consider a 430.

Engine does not come out for major service on the 550.

I agree with Simon, consider the 430 ;)

The 430 has a timing chain so no belts to change.

To all of those recommending a 430 - why not a 458???? I mean, if the sky is the limit - go for it.

All of the other cars the prospective buyer mentions are a better deal right now than a 430.

They have almost fully depreciated. A 430 is still in the middle of its depreciation curve.

Tens of thousands in 430 depreciation over the next 3-4 years will far outweigh a belt service on these other models

Because the OP listed older models, not brand new ones.

Perhaps it is not about the "best deal", but rather which model the OP would prefer the best.

When I was in the market for my 348, there were other models that were "better" deals, but my passion lies with the 348 ;)

Go for a 360 or 550 - they are both fantastic cars with very low service costs relative to the 355 or 456.

Have you driven any of the cars you are thinking about buying? That may help you narrow down your search.

Andy here on the forum was kind enough to offer to let me drive his 360, I may be a nut because I NEVER drove my Lotus Esprit,Jag XKR,Maserati 4200GT and a few others before I bought them, surprisingly I never got in one and thought..."man, what a mistake". Have most Ferrari owners driven thier car first before purchase?

What does a major service on a 430 consist of then? I'm still researching too.

each car is a purpose designed tool

so it makes no sense to think of a mid engined car the same as a front engine v12 touring car.

You are still welcome to come up and drive my 360. It may help you decide if a 360 is right for you, just let me know.

I did not, I didnt have to. The first time I saw the 360 Spider I knew I had to have it. Finally saved enough and bought it a few months ago, and I love it.

I never test drove the four ferraris I bought before I made the decision to buy them. It was all pure emotions.

My first Ferrari drives were a 550 & 360. Back to back at the same dealer. Night & day. But you'll want them both. If I had to say which was more "fun", I would say the 360. But I think I would have preferred the 550. The 550 I could drive all day long.
