If you had a 150K budget, which would you take and why.

    1) 2010 Audi R8 V10
    2) 2006-07 Ferrari 430
    3) 2008 Lambo SL.

I know this is 360/430 section, but I used to own a 360 and I spend most of my time in this section. I read and respect the threads and comments of most of you in this section. So please don't be bias toward the 430.
I know Audi and F430 can be daily drivers but I don't know about the SL (never driven one)
    Thanks

Not being biased, buy I would buy the Ferrari anyway. Before I bought mine (07 430) I looked at the SL as well. Very capable and nice car but the Ferrari was the easy choice. The Audi from what I've heard is also an incredible car, but still no Ferrari. My money went to the car I believed was the best.

Since I'm about to buy a F430 myself I'm a little bit biased to pick the F430 of course :) I did a testdrive with the R8 and it's cool but it's no Ferrari.

If the intent is for daily driving I'd think the Audi- it really depends on you and what you want to use it for! Personally, I'd rather drive a more normal car every day and have a 430/ferrari for weekend and good weather use as if I'm going exotic I want exotic with no "compromises" in exotic-ness :) The R8 is a beautiful car, but it ain't no ferrari/lamborghini. The R8 is very nice though, like the 850 bmw was back in the day or the 2003 SL55 AMG...

For weekend toy/connected to the road feel car.....430. Daily driver....SL. The R8 is a more luxurious car where the SL is like a real dual purpose machine. I bought a '06 Gallardo SE about 8 weeks ago and they are very easy to work on. Alot of parts mechanical parts have VW/Audi symbols stamped on them so some parts costs will be a bit less. I don't regret getting the Lambo but my heart will always be on a bright red Ferrari. Hoping to pick up a used 458 challenge/stradale/scuderia (whatever they call it) in about 5 years when my G is paid off.

R8 and Lambo...what's the difference? Same thing right? The 430 on the other hand is special. I am biased.

I have driven all 3. I have about an hours time in the R8 (V8). It would be a great daily driver, but for the money, it is not on the same level as the other two.

The gallardo is probably more comfortable for a daily driver than the 430. It has more creature comforts and such, but it also sits a little lower and can be hard to go everywhere.

As far as performance, I think the Gallardo and 430 are very similarly matched. While they are two totally different cars, they still are pretty neck and neck as far as performance when you get to the end of the track or whatever.

I personally prefer my 430 as far as feeling liek I am safe and connected with the road. I also LOVE Ferraris, especially red. I think it is just a CLASSY sports car.

The gallardo is a raw beast. It attracts more attention and probably looks more 'exotic'.

My choice if I had one and only would be the 430, but if I had the money, I would probably pick up a gallardo too

All of these three cars are very close in performance. If I have to chose, which I did, it would still be the F430. The SL can easily be a DD as the R8 or F430 and the nose raise is a great feature. My choice in this order, F430, Lambo SL and the R8 V10.

Thanks for the responds guys. I knew most of you will pick F430. As a x-Ferrari owner, I love Ferraris myself. The sound and the drive is incredible. On the other hand, I drove the R8. Audi is more user friendly, better built and more warranty. I think it looks better than 430 but then again is not a Ferrari. I have no idea about the SL. I haven't even been into a Gallardo yet.

I love the Lambo SL and think it's a great ride. No denying it. Lambo lacks a sense of culture and refinement that Ferrari exudes in buckets. I unquestionably want to own a Lambo SL at one point in my life. But I would never give up my Ferrari 360 to do it. It would be both, or just my Ferrari.

The R8 is an every day driver supercar. It's safe, 4 wheel drive that really works well, and has every luxury and amenity you could want in a luxury sports car. I think only it and the 911 turbo can be comfortably and affordably used as a daily driver. I have driven the V10 and V8 R8. I actually like the V8 better. I think the V10 is overpriced and that car is just magic with the V8, unless you are going to spend most of your time on the track... The V8 gets WAY better gas mileage and is more forgiving on a daily basis. I don't own either, but I owned an RS4 (same engine as the V8 R8) and it was a FANTASTIC car with tons of power. I currently drive a Porsche 993 twin turbo as my daily driver and plan on replacing it with a V8 R8 once I don't need the 4 seats to get the kids around every day. I think the V8 R8 is magic. And if your going to go for the V10, get the Lambo instead.

The 430 is sensational and is everything you could ever wish from a car of this type. I prefer the softer lines of the 360 to the more aggresive stance of the 430. But there is no denying the 430 is a significant improvement in drivers experience. It's beauty AND the beast all wrapped up in one package.

So. I would either buy the R8 with the V8, or get the 430. Then, when you can afford another.... get the Lambo!

    :)

Because you included the model years and not just the car make and model, I would choose the '10 Audi R8 V10.

Although I own a R8 V8 (not the V10 you are interested about), I intend to "add" the 430 (05) eventually this year. If I had a time machine, I would have gotten the 430 1st. The R8 V8 is an excellent DD nevertheless.

If i had the option to own all 3, I would but if i had to have just one - Ferrari all the way.

Buy the newest 430 you can, so much more to the car than the Audi. for me personally I think the Lambos just seem to try so hard with the looks, kind of over the top to me.

I test drove an '08 Gallardo SL before I bought my 430. Sweet car, but the last term I'd use to describe it is 'daily driver'. Its ride is very firm and, if equipped, its CCBs are extremely grabby at low speeds. Also, when pulling away normally from a stop, its e-gear transmission slips the clutch a bit too much for my taste (and wallet). I doubt its clutch would last long through the daily grind. Shifts from gear to gear were good, however.

The SL's e-gear transmission did perform better the more aggressively I drove it. When giving it decent throttle off the line, the clutch grabs quickly and the car rockets away. Neck-snapping fun, but only good in short doses.

Though my experience with the SL was limited, IMO, either the R8 or 430 would make significantly better daily drivers. The R8 is probably the better all-around daily driver, but the 430 is both exciting and very drivable (for an exotic).

Great inputs, especially for SL and R8. Thanks everyone. I need to go drive R8 V8 now. I want to see the difference between V10 and V8.

R8 v8 is a dog IMO a waste of money. You have to go v10 or don't bother.

personally, i picked a 430 spider over the R8. but i did love the 6 spd R8. if it is for a DD, then there is no discussion... the R8. the gallardo just isnt in the discussion for me.

good luck. the pursuit is half the fun

    I tested the F430, R8 V10 etc extensively.

I felt the F430 was special to behold and say I owned, but lacked both sound and oomph (coupe/F1). The R8 V10 was a beast in sound and had superior quality/warranty. But it isnt nearly as special.

I bought neither, preferring instead to hold out for a Scud or 458.

Bet that doesnt help you. :)

Nothing else is a Ferrari. I use an SL65 as a daily driver but an R8 or 911 turbo would work as well. Buy an 05 f430 an with the change buy a 3 year old 911 for a DD. A man who is into cars ought to have a Porsche of some kind always.:)
