For the weekend drive and regular track events, which one would you buy between 95-98 993 and 91-95 NSX if they are same price and milege?

Please do not say, "Neither, I would buy a Ferrari 328." :)

    Thanks!

    NSX, I guess.

I'd want a 993 for everyday driving. It's hard to beat in that regard.

If you guys don't mind and have a minute or two, could you please elaborate the reason? Is it from your experience or simply personal preferance?

    Thank you.

Never owned or driven an NSX, but i've had 2 993 coupes and 1 993 cab. They are super cars, very well built, handles well, comfortable, refined and powerful and can take the punishment of being a daily driver , if you want it for that purpose.

Sorry about that. I should have explained. Like Tony, I've never actually driven an NSX but I've owned a few 993's and I can't recommend them enough. They are very refined (for an air-cooled 911), comfortable, smooth, fast, ultra reliable, etc, etc. I wouldn't want one as a track car because I feel that a 993 actually makes an ideal daily driver. I used my '95 C4 Coupe every day for two years and, IMO, it was one of the best cars ever made. The fact that it was AWD and had heated seats made it a truly fantastic year round car.

The NSX hands down! Period... End of thread... I've driven both, I now own an '03 NSX. EXTREMELY reliable (I track it, shop with it, beat on it and never skips a beat). Thery are amazingly engineered and the performance is amazing. There is so much more like exclusivity, etc... that I won't get into but the 933 just felt plain... The NSX feels like a racecar...

    Just my 2cents...

    JamesR......

I used to be a Porsche sales manager and am also a biased multiple Porsche owner a well (gotta qualify myself here)...but having said that...the NSX is not a bad car at all, don't get me wrong.....it's just not the car that I think you'd find suitable in everyday situations...or on the track.

    My reasons....in no particular order.....

-Saleproof in most cases in the last 5 years as new car (in Canada anyways)
-NSX lacks storage space compared to 993
-2 seats in NSX versus 4 in Porsche
-tendency to eat tires every 10k or so in regular use with NSX
-timing belts in NSX as opposed to chains in Porsche
-lack of soul/character/heritage in NSX (gold chain poser car, no offence)
    -If you like the looks......buy a 328.....it's the real thing....not a copy
-I've seen Porsche on the track (all day in fact) !!!
-I've seen NSX's on the track for a few laps then they get parked ???
-Less curbside visibility with a 993 in daily use......so, no gack factor
-AWD and traction control available if required with Porsche
-Low ground clearance on NSX annoying
-Larger aftermarket support base for Porsche compared to NSX aftermarket
-The seat of the pants perception from driving it leaves me unimpressed compared to 993....it's not bad....I just didn't get excited....that's all.

-NSX lacks of storage space compared to 993
(NSX has enough for six lg bags of groceries, golf clubs, luggage for two,etc..)
-2 seats in NSX versus 4 in Porsche
    (FACT... can't argue with that)
-tendency to eat tires every 10k or so in regular use with NSX
(FACT... can't argue with that)(I have Michelin PS2 and 15Kmiles going strong w/same tires)
-timing belts as opposed to chains in Porsche
(FACT.. BUT... 1st service at 105Kmiles .. OIL CHANGES AT EVERY 8K!!)
-lack of soul/character/heritage in NSX (gold chain poser car, no offence)
    (OPINION - TOTAL BULL SH$T...)
-I've seen Porsche on the track (all day in fact) !!!
(I've seen NSX on the track ALL DAY LONG.. MESELF... Then to the market, over to the bank, then a 3hour drive back home, stoped for fast food and groceries)
-I've seen NSX's on the track for a few laps then they get parked ???
(I've seen MANY Porsches on the track then parked FOR REPAIRS...)
-Less curbside visibility with a 993 in daily use......so, no gack factor
(... okay... I'll give you that one... not big deal really...)
-AWD and traction control available if required with Porsche
    (FACT... can't argue with that)
-Low ground clearance on NSX annoying
(Not my '03... ground clearence is much better than my Esprit)
-Larger aftermarket support base for Porsche compared to NSX aftermarket
(You'd be surprised how big of an aftermarket there is for an NSX)
-Personal perception from driving it leaves me unimpressed compared to 993
(Opinion... The 993 did nothing for me... The NSX is an exotic racecar for the street... People on the street find it exotic and classy and they'll tell you that.)

NSX wins in performance, rarity, beauty, interior, exterior, reliability, track use.... oh... and it's hand built in the F1 Factory in Japan... enough said...

BTW- I do love Porsche cars...but I went on a club run/track run last weekend and my NSX impressed me soo much.. I'm back in a honeymoon stage with it at this time...

JamesR... To tell you the truth.. You can't go wrong with either of them...

    Good luck and happy motoring..

Porsche has won the 24 hour of LeMans more times OUTRIGHT than any other manufacturer....period. "That" is what constitutes soul/character/heritage..........

Now having said that, the cars that delivered those victories were basically heavily modified 911's, or redesigned 911 engines in purpose built sport racing cars, and to that extent, when one looks into the lower GT classes the 911 basically has been the standard bearer thruout it's existence.

So......when the Acura and the NSX can make that claim........it would be fair to accept the bullsh&t comment as "fact" regarding the public's perception of this car in the minds of most enthusiasts and purchasers.

Other than that.....the rest you have to see for yourself I guess......buy the one that bakes your cake.

The NSX has won many titles in japanese races over the years. It was hand tuned by A. Senna. It was made to celebrate the domination of Honda in F1 in the late 80s. I think the soul of Senna in a car that doesnt break down and is easy and cheap to keep running is good enough for me.

If you do go NSX, there are a few places I could send you information for that have parts available anywhere from 15-20% off MSRP.

KDS, you have no clue what you are talking about. Not a freaking clue.

I hate bull**** about "no soul". What a joke. The NSX will run circles around every 993 (minus the TT).

James R, go with the NSX. Visit nsxprime.com where you will find opinions from people who actually own the car -- unlike KDS.

To me the NSX always looked boring, like a cheap replica of what some weirdo thought must be a typical 70ies race car ...

I think a mid-engine car with a usable trunk is too cool.

-2 seats in NSX versus 4 in Porsche
    (FACT... can't argue with that)
I's a sports car. If you need 4 seats you shouldn't be looking at sports cars.

-tendency to eat tires every 10k or so in regular use with NSX
(FACT... can't argue with that)(I have Michelin PS2 and 15Kmiles going
I find that 8000 is about right. This fact sucks.

-AWD and traction control available if required with Porsche
    (FACT... can't argue with that)

FACT: NSX has traction control standard since 1991. I don't want AWD in a sports car; I want RWD. IIRC it also was also the first production car with 4-channel ABS and electric power steering (no ps pump) and possibly the first with throttle-by-wire (1995).

I agree. I test drove a 996 na and it was quite boring. Nice, but boring. Now if only one of you guys will let me have my way with a GT2 or 996tt.

Definitely nsx! I had a 92 for about a year and it was great. It handle as good as my 360, it also looks more exotic than a 993, IMO.

I've spent a brief amount of time behind the wheel of a 1992 NSX and a 1995 993 C2. They have completely different personalities. I doubt there are many people that are in love with both of them. For this reason I suggest you drive them and see which one you fall into groove with before deliberating any further. Look at it this way, you're choosing between two polarities so it should be an easy choice.

I've owned lots of 911s including a 993 and I also owned an NSX for 6 years. The NSX is an engineering tour-de-force. Yes, they do have different personalities but I enjoy them both. Being mid-engine, the NSX is better balanced and has better handling characteristics.

As far as the NSX not having any soul/character/heritage, that's just BS that the Ferrari gold-chain crowd recites to feel good about itself! And it's funny to hear NSX owners being called poseurs on a Ferrari board. It's clear that most Ferraris are bought for show and not to drive -- just look at all the miserable garage queens. At least most 911 and NSX owners are real enthusiasts (well, the pre-996 owners, anyway) who have the good sense to drive their sports cars!

Which would I pick if I could only pick one? -- the NSX. It's a little more exotic engineering-wise (eg, titanium con rods, aluminum construction) and has a slight edge performance-wise.

    Netviper....

You don't have to own a certain car to have an opinion about it......if you have enough seat time in it.......don't you think ? That is what test drives are all about before you buy.

    ------------------------

Anyways.............Ferrari's have an unheralded F-1 record and a substantial road racing record........they "are" the real thing.............of that there is no question.

Porsche has the same.........but what about the NSX ???? The only Jap crap to win anything at LeMans was the one hit wonder from Mazda in 1993.........and that's because Porsche was not there.

The next year Porsche won OUTRIGHT again, with the Joachim Dauer's splendid 962 street legal car......a 10 year old design at the time..........

Funny no one mentioned my "buy a 328" line if you want the original....and not the Japanese copy of it. Must be another one of my accurate and unimpeachable statements.
