    Hi everybody. I may have to take a hard decision. I'm presently at the beginning of a tight Financial situation by choice and MAY have to sell one of my Ferraris(2).

    The two cars:

    My 1977 308GTB which I own for 15 years and had no plan to sell. No history, no books, no jack or Tools etc. I took the engine out over two years ago for a refresh and it still on the floor with heads off. Newly redone seats sitting out of the car. Other than that a good car that I drove and enjoyed a lot. Less than 30,000 on the clock.

    1990 Testarossa. Bought it a year ago with 32,000 km now at 35K. I'm the 4th owner with full history but no maintnance records before 2009. Nice car with no needs. New clutch, new Newman diff. Paint is very nice. Interior is near perfect. All books, tools, jack, spare etc. All in super nice condition. Also have set of 4 luggage in black(512TR). If I sell I thought about doing the engine out service to help sale and raise the price a bit.

    I was thinking of selling the TR if I have to. A friend of mine who have been bogging me for years to buy my 308 offered me the possibility of buying it at $40K cdn as is yesterday night. So he made me think about it.

    What would be the best move. Also thinking a bit about future value.

    Is that 308 plastic or Alu?
    is the TR, the 1 mirror version?

    Relevant questions. History may suggest leaning the TR (12-cyl), but I'm in the other camp - keep the 308.

    @Todd308TR also asked a relevant question - which one do you love?

    I own a 1966 Jaguar E-Type and a 1984 308 GTS - if faced with that question now, I'd probably keep the 308. I love the E-Type, but the 308 is an absolute joy - I pick up the keys for it 7 out of 10 times.

    If someone wants to buy your 308 on the floor all apart I'd sell it and keep the testarossa personally. Although if you sold the Testarossa you'd have more funds to play with..

    Keep the 308 - classic design, Enzo-era car, with looks that will never go out of style. Maintenance is reasonable too.

    They made thousands of TRs - cannot imagine them appreciating too much. They drive like trucks (too big, too wide) and require dreaded engine-out major. The flat-12 is a very good engine, though. Wish they had designed a better car around it.

    What? They made 7,700 TRs, many Fcars require engine outs, and how big is it?

    They never made an Alu 308, the metal used was steel.

    7,700 TRs is probably the most of any 12 cylinder model by far. Heck, the only made about 3000 612s, and that is a modern 2+2 V12 Ferrari that can probably run circles around the TR.

    348, 355, and all TRs require engine outs. Possibly Boxers as well. Did I miss any?

    I comparison drove 2 TRs and a Boxer, and the Boxer felt more agile to me. I would not want to track a TR. By size, I was referring to mid-engine cars for that era.

    Boxers and Mondial T also require engine-out.

    7700 Testarossas vs. 13,241 308's. 380hp vs 240hp. V12 vs. v8. I know which one I had a poster of on my wall :).

    Projects are hard to sell and the 308 may have less increasing value in the future.

    You wont be able to sell the 308 for a better price with history etc that quick. Sell it for the price you get from your friend and keep the testarossa as a asset that you could sell quicker if needed in future. due to history, books and all. My .02c

    I'm pretty sure I'll never be proven wrong that they made many more 308's than TR's....

    If you count all 308s and 328s its somethign liek 20k cars. Neither the 308 not the Tr are particularily rare for ferraris.

    The 308 if its a Euro car with carbs is a really really nice drive, the Tr is bigger heavier faster, two different things.

    From an $$$ perspective if you can sell a project f308 for 40k that sounds like a decent deal. Even if 308 appreciate in the near future, what will they be $60k cars for a really nice one. My bet is in the medium term the Tr has more appreciation in it, although in the past 6 months you will surely have made profit on a Tr already, and aTr is going to cost more to run.

    All in all its probably an equal tossup, so the question boils down to what type of driving you do. If its big open roads and cruising around the Tr is the car to have hands down. If you drive on small backroads the 308 is alive lithe and going to be way more fun.

    Not a fan of transverse motors and therefore I say keep the TR :)

    This is what I was going to say. I have not sat in a Tr before but the 308 is a pleasant little car to oogle over in your garage. So with the above statement I would add the consideration of how you enjoy your garage space. Do you like to have a smaller simpler car in that space which "might" be able to go longer between drives without deteriorating too much on you? Or are you a regular active user of your car(s)?

    I cannot fathom a Tr ownership experience where the car does not get regular exercise, it is just too grand of a machine IMO.
    But...
    Which one really moves you?
    Which one would you enjoy shopping for again, when things turn around?
