I vote to sell the 308. The TR is enough Ferrari to fill any void the decision leaves in your heart. Wont work the other way round.

The 308 is in pieces, it will require many hrs to put together. Then You have the hassle to get it to run again, which will require hours of tinkering again!

Take the 40 now, clean the garage, save the insurance money sooner as well, and enjoy the TR for the next few years.

If you are stuck with only one Ferrari .... Owning a 12 cylinder is the one to have :)

But you should really sell the car you are not upside down in.

    Does the 13,241 include 328's ?

In the end this is what collectability is about.
    And supply of course.

Wow! Thanks everybody, my post got much more attention than I thought it would.

I can not answer all questions or comment everything but I'll add some info to help understand.
I bought a 308 while shopping for a Pantera. Never thought about a Ferrari before. Bought the car thinking it would be for a short time but I fell in love with it. I still love the car after 15 years.
Owning an exotic 12 cylinder Italian supercar have been a life long dream. But I had in mind a Countach. After I missed a couple chance to buy CT at reasonable prices their price went way over my Financial possibilities so I thought a Testarossa would be a good second choice.
I'm very very happy with my TR. I really like the car. I may quite easily fall in love with this one too but she's too new for now to know.

The friend to who I would possibly sell the 308 is very close to me. His Diablo actually live here in my garage since he bought it almost 3 years ago. His garage is presently being built and will be a VERY nice showroom for more cars than he own. He already told me my cars will be welcome to live there if I want. So the 308 would be in very good hands and also available for me if I want to reconnect with it once in a while.

He is a guy that doesn't drive his cars very much anymore. But I do drive mine on a regular basis. I drove his Diablo more than him.

Also, he is building an appartment on the second floor of the garage and I'm seriously thinking about this appartement for my retirement when times come and it's not so far from now. The stairs from the upper floor will come down right in the SHOWROOM if I want. So my ex 308 would be almost in my living room for me to admire.

Claude - it sounds like you are truly attached to the 308. IF you need to - take advantage of the recent appreciation in the TR and don't look back. (BTW - call me if you decide to go this way)

You and I have the same Ferrari collection. I am opposite. I always wanted a TR and picked up the 308 kind of on a whim. In the same situation I would unload the 308.

Truly hoping you won't have to do this...

If you REALLY need the cash then go the fast way. 308 must go. Business decision. IMHO both car should appreciate. You're gonna be sorry to sell either one, that's the sad part...I hope you csn find a way to keep both Claude!

Thanks guys for your opinions. I'm stretching the time as much as I can to see if I can get through keeping both. It will be a very hard decision if I have to do it. I'd like to keep both of them.

Toute une decision a prendre Claude.
For how much time is the 308 a stand still project?
If you need to invest in another venture would the $40,000 be sufficient to make it happen?
You had the V8 experience with your previous Mondiale-now you are experiencing 12 cyl. & fully enjoying it.
I think that in both cases these cars will increase in value, the mean difference is that with the TR you can enjoy it whenever you like. If you go with the 308 when realisticly will you have it complete to your satisfaction & fully enjoying driving it? (If ever).
Last if you please your friend with the Diablo wich he seldom use you could right now secure a future option on his car with a set price (say up to a few years)=you have the leverage to do so.
I hope that my 2 cents worth do not add any more confusion.
    Bonne chance
    Denis

Tough decision. As I don't see one as being more collectable than the other, and if you love them equally, I would suggest you look at those attributes that are not easily duplicated in modern cars

In that respect, the decision is easy, keep the Testarossa. V12 cars will disappear pretty soon, and the only other manufacturer of mid-engine V12s has list prices of $400k+. That played into my decision of a Diablo roadster.

OTOH, high reving V8 cars are retty common and pretty cheap (348, 355, 360, etc).

Or you can cash out both and do a 550 and have cash left.

The thing no one has mentioned is that its a 308GTB. B. As in Berlinetta. The top doesn't come off. It's rare in 308 world, and 308's are going up. Oh yeah, it has carbs too.

    Keep the 308GTB

If I needed to economize I would sell the TR. It could go for a greater price and, if you keep it, will require more efforts to keep up with maintenance than the 308.

I completely agree. When I add in the original posters more emotional posts about the 308, it seems to me the best move is sell the TR on.
