Looking for feedback on what paint or other product you used after stripping the goo off your Sticky Buttons? Has it held up over time?

Which parts did you strip then refinish without removing them from the car?

    Thanks!

Didn't refinish. They look grey with the goo gone. That's it.

I used an XIM paint from a bodyshop paint supply place. To me, the buttons looked too shiney after stripping them.

I used Plasti-Dip spray. I wanted to keep the original feel. I used Plasti-Dip primer first though, because otherwise the coating just peels off. My door handles have been coated for two years and still look perfect.

For my F430 I did not have to repaint most of the sticky parts because I managed to clean them without scratching them and the finish looked good. For the parts I had to paint I used Rustoleum Automotive enamel Black Flat (see image in post). Everyone carries it. The finish was very nice.

If you still want them to have the soft rubbery finish you can use Plastidip like others mentioned. Do a test piece of garage junk and make the decision.

    Trent,

I have plasti-dipped items before and found that they are difficult to clean and wipe off with a towel. The coating seemed to "garb onto" the cloth and lint attached to the coating. Have you had any issues wiping them off or cleaning?

I agree. Platidip has its pros and cons.

    Pro: More OEM finish

CON: More OEM finish ;), like lent pickup, and maybe future sticky issues although that is pure speculation.

I have used plastidip in liquid dip and spray for many applications, but none on any of my cars. Lent is an issue as is difficulty to clean in general. The flat paint looks the part, just feels better IMO and is easier to maintain.

How do these DIY approaches differ from the finish that StickyNoMore puts on refinished parts?

i had a professional shop do mine but they did not coat the buttons afterwards. check out my post in the NJ section for pics. Came out perfect. The buttons are no longer soft to the touch they just feel like plastic buttons. It's great and makes the car so much more inviting to site inside. I used to be afraid to put my hands on anything but the steering wheel.
